Snyder, who was the founder of Allied Arts and its director for 10 years, passed away on Dec. 13,2018 at the age of 88. The exhibit will include paintings, prints, pottery and other mediums that were created from the 1950s onward. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Tuesday, Jan. 8,2019 Registration is now open for Milledgeville's acclaimed acting class for youth ages 6 and over. Classes will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 8 and meet weekly for eight sessions. ACT I (ages 6-11) will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and ACT II (ages 12+) will meet from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The coast is $15 per student and space is limited. Crockett hopes the exhibit will inspire others to create art and shed a positive light on the message behind and expression of art. The Office of Inclusive Excellence at Georgia College invites participation in the competition of scholarly or creative works in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students in area schools are being asked to consider the powerful rhetorical style and the message of transformational change contained in "What is Your Life's Blueprint," that was delivered by Dr. King on Oct. 26,1967 at Barrett Junior High School in Philadelphia and formulate a response. Winning works will be selected by each school for each level of instruction (elementary, middle and high school) at their own discretion. From that pool, a Georgia College Committee will select three students to present their work at the breakfast. Cost for the breakfast is $15, registration ends on Jan. 11. Friday, Jan. 18,2019,10 a.m. Georgia Cancer Specialists and Northside Hospital are hosting the 17th Annual totes 2 tots drive to collect backpacks and suitcases for foster children in Georgia. Donations of new or nearly new backpacks, duffel bags and suitcases will be accepted. More than 14,000 children, from infants to teenagers are currently in the foster care system in Georgia. Many of these children shuffle their belongings in garbage bags when they are removed from their homes. Totes 2 Tots aims to change that by giving every foster child a suitcase, backpack or duffel bag. Since launching in 2003, totes 2 tots has collected and distributed more than 55,000 bags. In 2006, Mike and Kay McCarthy, fans of diverse musical genres, decided to commission a piece which combined the folk sounds of bluegrass with the majesty of classical choral music.
