Allied Arts will have a selection of Betty Gene Sanders Snyder's work
as a celebration of her life at the Marlor Art Center. Snyder, who was
the founder of Allied Arts and its director for 10 years, passed away
on Dec. 13,2018 at the age of 88. The exhibit will include paintings,
prints, pottery and other mediums that were created from the
1950s onward. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Jan. 8,2019
Registration is now open for Milledgeville's acclaimed acting
class for youth ages 6 and over. Classes will begin on Tuesday,
Jan. 8 and meet weekly for eight sessions. ACT I (ages 6-11) will
meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and ACT II (ages 12+) will meet from
4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The coast is $15 per student and space is

Local artist Jeremiah Crockett will have a selection of work on display
at the Marlor House. Crockett hopes the exhibit will inspire others
to create art and shed a positive light on the message behind and
expression of art. The opening reception will take place from 1 p.m. to
3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13. The reception is free and open to the public.

A Civic Woman's Club meeting will be held at Allen's Market. It is
the monthly meeting. Come join for snacks and social. The meeting
will start at 10 a.m. with a different guest speaker each month.
Guest speakers will cover topics ranging from arts, conservation,
home life international outreach, education and public issues.

The Georgia College Department of Music will host the "Spheres
of Influence Shostakovich during WWII" performance at
Max Noah Recital Hall. The performance will feature Mayumi
Masri and David Johnson on violin, William McClain on viola,

The Second Annual Le Pied Du Mont Boucherie Festival will be taking
place at Comfort Farms. The event is a gathering of butchers, chefs,
farmers and veterans coming together to celebrate the start of our
growing season and to support of our nation's first Veterans' Acute
Crisis Agricultural Center. The VACAC program will help combat
veterans, transition effectively into civilian life. The Boucherie festival is
a 3-day educational event designed to bring the community together
witness the craft of our butchers, farmers and chefs who work
together throughout the growing season to prepare seasonal delicious
meals from local, sustainable and organic sources. The education
will consist of safe handling of livestock, humane dispatch, how to
evaluate a healthy carcass, butchering techniques, understanding our
growing season, identifying problems and solutions for a healthier
food system and how our veterans can take an active role to providing

The MLK Community Breakfast will take place at Georgia College's
Magnolia Ballroom. The Office of Inclusive Excellence at Georgia
College invites participation in the competition of scholarly or
creative works in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Students in area schools are being asked to consider the powerful
rhetorical style and the message of transformational change
contained in "What is Your Life's Blueprint," that was delivered by Dr.
King on Oct. 26,1967 at Barrett Junior High School in Philadelphia
and formulate a response. Winning works will be selected by each
school for each level of instruction (elementary, middle and high
school) at their own discretion. From that pool, a Georgia College
Committee will select three students to present their work at the
breakfast. Cost for the breakfast is $15, registration ends on Jan. 11.

Georgia Cancer Specialists and Northside Hospital are hosting the
17th Annual totes 2 tots drive to collect backpacks and suitcases
for foster children in Georgia. Donations of new or nearly new
backpacks, duffel bags and suitcases will be accepted. More than
14,000 children, from infants to teenagers are currently in the
foster care system in Georgia. Many of these children shuffle their
belongings in garbage bags when they are removed from their
homes. Totes 2 Tots aims to change that by giving every foster
child a suitcase, backpack or duffel bag. Since launching in 2003,
totes 2 tots has collected and distributed more than 55,000 bags.

Volunteers are needed to assist in a sevice day led by the
Boys and Girls Club of Baldwin and Jones counties. The event
will betaking place as a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.
Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 19. More details TBA.

Bluegrass Mass by Monroe Crossing at Allied Arts. In 2006, Mike
and Kay McCarthy, fans of diverse musical genres, decided to
commission a piece which combined the folk sounds of bluegrass
with the majesty of classical choral music. Composer Carol Barnett
and librettist Marisha Chamberlin combined efforts to create
The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. The result is a brilliant and
exhilarating blend of the classical mass, modern choral sophistication,
insightful poetry, and traditional bluegrass instrumentation.

The Georgia College Department of Theatre and Dance
presents "Frozen in the Toilet Paper Aisle of Life," a
performance about living with anxiety, depression and a
touch of OCD. The show will take place at the Campus Black
Box Theatre. The event is free and for mature audiences.

A guest artist recital, by director Bill Pritchard will take
place at the Max Noah Recital Hall at Georgia College. The
