CM K Your hometown newspaper for Milledgeville and Baldwin County, Georgia. » BALDWIN COUNTY CRIME Woman remains STAFF REPORTS A woman remains hospi talized after being shot in the upper torso during a drive-by in the Milledgeville Manor. All totaled, three people were struck by gunfire during the incident, including the aforementioned woman. A man was shot in the hand and later had a finger amputated, while the third victim was grazed and refused medical in hospital after shooting treatment. The woman reportedly was asleep when she was shot. The incident occurred during the early-morning hours of Dec. 28. Two different vehicles of interest were listed by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office - alight-col ored Toyota Camry or Corolla, as well as a red Cadillac. According to the Baldwin County Sheriffs Office inci dent report, evidence was recovered from the scene, including multiple shell casings. This includes celebratory gunfire, something that caused property damage at two different locations shortly after the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1. A woman in Foston’s trailer park off of Harrisburg Road said that she walked into her living room shortly after the New Year and “noticed a hole in the ceiling and a bullet on the floor.” After investigating the scene, a sheriff s deputy concluded that the damage was likely the result of “celebratory gunfire.” Several miles away on Swint Avenue, meanwhile, a woman woke up Tuesday morning to the site of a shattered window and a “bullet, perfectly intact, sitting between two panes of glass.” That incident also is believed to a result of “celebratory gunfire.” Discharging a firearm outside of the city limits is not illegal, said Baldwin County Sheriff s Office Maj. Troopers made nine different DUI arrests within the first three hours of 2019 here in Milledgeville-Baldwin County, with all suspects processed at the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center. The GSP’s “New Year’s holiday period” annually runs between 6 p.m. on Dec. 28 through 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 1. During its 2017 “New Year’s holiday period,” troopers made a total of 234 DUI arrests around Georgia. The GSP annually uses this time period to “be on high visibility patrols,” while “cautioning drivers to plan for a for a sober designated driver.” Troopers also made three additional DUI arrests between Dec. 26 through Dec. 31, bringing the total number of “holiday DUIs” to 12 here. County manager reviews 2018 accomplishments WIL PETTY wil@bbnews.today During the Commissioners’ final meeting of 2018, County Manager Carlos Tobar gave a year in review of sorts in regards to the different accomplishments the county had made for the year. “It’s been a rough year,” Tobar said. “We swung for the fences and we struck out a couple of times.” While the county shot down a property maintenance code to fight blight and citizens voted down a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) referendum for the county and city, there were still many successes in 2018 for the county.
