CM K » MLK MARCH CEREMONIES A SUCCESS unity I Baldwin Bulletin Thursday, January 24,2019 | B1 A multi-mile march started at Huley Park and ended at Flagg Chapel Baptist Church, where a packed out sermon honored those who have fought for equality in Milledgeville. The march lasted close to an hour, with stops taking place at the Black Heritage Plaza near Allen’s Market and the Peace Memorial outside of the Baldwin County Courthouse. Those who march sang hymns as the route went down Clarke, Wilkinson, McIntosh and Wayne streets. Meanwhile at the church, visitors were given a sermon by Rev. Dr. Leonard Small of Savannah’s Litway Baptist Church, under the theme of “are we there yet?,” in terms of true equality for all races. The leadership of the 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Baldwin County also paid honor to Southern Christian Leadership Conference president George Hogan, as well as Dora Clemons Collier, who was the first black store clerk hired to work in a business downtown. Other speakers included event organizer Quentin T. Howell, Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Dr. Noris Price and musical selections from the Baldwin Hancock Community Choir.
