State Ballet Theatre of Russia dancers take the stage at the Classic Center in
Athens for a performance of "The Nutcracker."

The Classic Center will host the internationally renowned State Ballet Theatre of
Russia as they present two performances of "The Nutcracker." The performance is
sure to bring joy to the whole family. Shows are on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 and they

partnerships and assisting neighbors
and organizations in need. The
dealership is proud to recognize
the Rotary Club of Morgan County
as its November 2015 Love Bucket
Recipient.
On Friday, Nov. 27, Rusty Ewing, 2016
President-Elect of the Rotary Club of
Morgan County, visited Louie Herron
Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for a check
presentation and interview on behalf
of the nonprofit. Ewing spoke to the
history of Rotary International and
the work of the nonprofit's local
chapter that values "Service Above
Self." Louie Herron, Owner of Louie
Herron Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, had
the honor of presenting Ewing with
a $500 check, awarded to the Rotary
Club of Morgan County, on behalf of
the dealership.
Love Bucket Funds will assist the
Club with various goodwill efforts.
Internationally, they'll enable the
group's continued support of its
parent organization's goal to eradicate
polio and be used to sponsor an
international student within a college
year, such as the one currently studying
at the University of Georgia. Locally,
they'll be used to provide numerous
$1,000 scholarships to Morgan County
High School students each year; build
handicap ramps for the less fortunate
and be distributed among other local
organizations in need. Love Bucket
Funds will also help sponsor the Club's
34th Annual Christmas Rush Classic
Road Race (5k and 8k) on Dec. 12.

OCAF will host its annual Mingle with Krin-
gle event. Each session consists of free
photos with Santa, festive storytelling,
holiday crafts, construction of the Peaceful

Georgia Elite Gymnastics will host the 2nd
annual Georgia Elite Classic meet at its
facility located at 1010 Lampkin Branch
Drive. The meet will have gymnasts from
across the area competing. Cost of admis
sion to watch the meet is $7 for adults,
$5 for children and seniors and children

Oconee County Recreation Department will
host its 4th annual Coaches vs. Cancer
event. This American Cancer Society ben
efit tournament will have teams of three
or four playing in a pool style tournament
with a three game minimum. The event
begins at 1 p.m. and the cost $50 per

The Athens Symphony Orchestra will per
form its annual Holiday Concert at the

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia will
host its January Friends First Friday event
in the Visitor Center and Conservatory
Gardenside Room. The event will walk
guests through what makes a garden a
botanical garden, the historical background
and the impact botanical gardens are
making today. Director Wilf Nicholls will
present on these topics and more. Cost is

Nov. 16 - Feb. 28
The Classic Center will provide Athens' only
indoor/outdoor ice-skating rink. The rink
will be indoors during the early season
before moving outside for guests to enjoy
the winter weather. The rink offers multi
ple public skating sessions, offers toddler
and youth classes, adult sessions and

Georgia College presents its 19th Annu
al Nutcracker Ballet. The show will be
performed at Georgia College and State
University's Russell Auditorium- 231 West

Elizabeth von Trapp and The Carolina Brass
Quintet come to Georgia Military Col
lege's Goldstein Center for the Performing
Arts for a concert entitled "Sounds of the
Holiday" at 7 p.m.. Elizabeth is the grand
daughter of legendary Maria and Baron
von Trapp whose story inspired "The
Sound of Music." Elizabeth von Trapp will
entertain the crowd with traditional carols,
music ranging from Bach to Handel and
jazz to Broadway. Tickets to this show are
$15 general admission $5 for students. For

Antebellum Christmas at the Mansion has
the Old Governor's Mansion transformed
into a Christmas wonderland. Take a
step back in time to see how the elite of
Georgia celebrated this holiday. The tours
reoccur weekly on Sundays, Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 2- 4 p.m.. Ad
mission is $10 per person, $7 for seniors
and pre-booked tours and $2 for students.

FUMC celebrates Christmas with
new music and worship events
First United Methodist
Church of Greensboro her
alds the 2015 Christmas
Season with its Christmas
Choral Cantata on Dec. 13
at 7 pan. in the church’s
magnificent sanctuary at
the South Campus on Carey
Station Road. The upcoming
cantata, “Season of Won
ders,” will be led by Alexis
Renee Ford, the church’s
new Minister of Music. This
popular annual concert of
Christian music draws folks
from across Greene County
and beyond. All are invited
to usher in the Holy Season
of Advent with beautiful,
inspiring music. Doors open
for the cantata performance
at 6:30 p.m.
This year, in addition
to this signature and very
popular Christmas Cantata
event, are both familiar and
new worship services — all
open to the community.
On Sunday, Dec. 20 at 5
p.m., all are invited to attend
a new “The Longest Night”
Worship Service at the North
Campus church on Broad
Street in downtown Greens
boro. This special service
will recognize the varied
emotions we all feel during
the Christmas season, and
encourage those who strug
gle with the losses that life
can bring.
The church will offer three
Christmas Eve Candlelight
Services on Dec. 24, to which
the Greene County and sur
rounding communities are
invited. The first Christmas
Eve Service will be held at the
North Campus at 5 p.m. The
second service is at 7 p.m. at
the South Campus on Carey
Station Road. New this year
is the 11 p.m. Christmas Eve
Candlelight Service in the
historic sanctuary of the
North Campus.
On Sunday, Dec. 27, the
congregation will meet at the
North Campus church for its
“One Combined Worship
Service” at 10:30 a.m. Again,
the community is invited
to all worship services of
the First United Methodist
Church of Greensboro.
Regular FUMC worship
services will be held as usual
each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in
the South Campus church,
and at 11 a.m. at the North
Campus church on Broad
Street in Greensboro. For
