Jeff Warren

In an initiative too late to make it
onto the Morgan County Commis
sion’s printed agenda for its Jan.
5 meeting, the Bank of Madison
asked commissioners to commit
to restructuring an overdue loan.
Specifically the bank asked the
commission board to dedicate
revenue generated from principal
Stanton Springs business park
firm, Baxalta, to pay off a bank
loan that aided development of the
business park. File photo

Collins and Greene County
Sheriff Chris Houston have no
comment on the recent article
published in Online Athens.
Wayne Ford’s article, which
cites Herald Journal editor
Carey Williams as its source,
states Houston is “possibly in
line” to become the next su

County School System.
“I don’t know how Carey
would know that,” Collins
said. “He hasn’t been in
any of our executive session
meetings. At this point in time
nobody has been hired, I don’t
have a contract signed. I can’t
comment on it.”

LOA named Top 5 finalist for
Ga. Charter School of the Year
Lake Oconee Academy has
been selected as one of the five
finalists for Georgia Charter
School of the Year.
Sponsored by The Coca-Cola
Foundation, the award will be
presented at the Georgia Charter
Schools Association Annual Con
ference in February.
Presented each year to an
outstanding charter school in
Georgia, the prestigious award
was established to honor excel
lence in education throughout the
charter sector.
As the final step in the process,
LOA participated in an interview
before a selection committee on
Jan. 14.
Lake Oconee Academy CEO
Dr. Otho Tucker said of the
award, “This is just another indi
cation that the hard work of the
students, parents, staff, volun
teers and board does not go unno
ticed by those outside of Greene
County.”
Tucker says that ultimately, the
goal of LOA is setting a standard
for others.
