The aircraft came to rest near the intersection of E. Washington and Vine streets. No tire resulted from the crash. No one was hurt on the ground. The two men aboard the plane survived the crash and went by am bulance to Athens Regional Medical Center. Their names have been withheld. City of Madison firefight ers responded to the downed plane along with EMS, assisted by county firefighters and lawmen of the city police, the county sheriffs office and the Georgia State Patrol, who re stricted traffic into the area. Both fliers were outside the aircraft when firefighters arrived, reported Gene Porter of the Madison Fire Dept. Monday, Feb. 1, is the final day to register and secure the opportunity to participate in the election if you are not already a registered voter in the commu nity where you live. That leaves just two weeks to become regis tered and make your vote count. Registration may be accom plished in person at the voter registration office of the Georgia county where you reside. In Greene County, that office is at 1180 C. Weldon Smith Drive, Suite 120, in Greensboro, south of U.S. Highway 278 and north of the railroad. In Morgan County, the voter registration office is at 434 Hancock St. in downtown Madison near the courthouse. Putnam County’s voter registra tion office is inside the Putnam County Courthouse in downtown Eatonton. To register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the county where you register. You also must present a photo ID to verify your identity.
