Lake Country voters mirrored the state totals as Trump emerged as the clear winner on the Repub lican side and Clinton dominated the Democrat primary. The turnout for Lake Country was more than 50 percent in Greene and Morgan, and nearly 40 percent in Putnam. In Greene County, Trump received slightly more than 41 percent of the Republican vote with his name on 1,555 ballots. Marco Rubio was second with 26 percent and Ted Cruz took third SEE ELECTION » A3 PUTNAM COUNTY Roofer dies in accident near Rutledge Jeff Warren jeff@lakeoconeenews.us A workman making roof repairs at the Present Glory Missionary Baptist Church south of Rutledge died late Friday afternoon, Feb. 26, after the metal ladder he moved touched an overhead electrical wire and current passed through his body. Killed was Alexis Alonzo Hill, 50, of Town Creek Road, Eatonton. Morgan County Sheriffs Deputy Justin Davis respond ed to the accident at 2730 Old Mill Road just after 5 p.m. and recorded the incident in a sher iffs office report. According to his report, Morgan County Fire Rescue first responders and National EMS ambulance medics already tended to Hill as Davis arrived in his patrol vehicle. Learning from the Morgan County dispatcher a medevac helicopter was on the way, Davis moved to the inter section of U.S. Highway 278 and Old Mill Road just south SEE ROOFER » A8 GREENE COUNTY LOA charter OKed for 8 years Jackie Gutknecht jackie@lakeoconeenews.us After months of negotiations and numerous meetings, the Greene County Board of Edu cation approved the Lake Oconee Academy charter renewal application in a 3-2 vote for an eight-year term. LOA’s Board of Governors met Feb. 25 in a called meeting and approved the eight-year charter term unanimously, bringing it before the BOE Friday. BOE members Deborah Smith and Clarence Hunt voted against the application in a special called meeting Feb. 26. The board originally met to vote on the ap plication Feb. 22, but after arguments over a five-year charter option and a 2-2 vote, no decision was made.
