to a patrol Sergeant. That’s
where he remained until
leaving to join the Georgia

Milton announces re-election bid
Morgan County 5th
District Commissioner
Ron Milton provided to
the Lake Oconee News on
Tuesday, Feb. 16, the fol
lowing announcement of
his campaign for reelec
tion:
After conferring with
many citizens in my district
and county, I have made
the decision to seek another
term as commissioner
for Morgan County’s 5th
District. Four years ago, I
stated I would assess when
the time came whether to
ask voters for a second term
or just serve the one term. If
voters approve my serving a
second term, that will be as
long as I would want to serve
and, I believe, as long as a
commissioner should serve.
I have learned a lot in these
past three-plus years. In
addition to completing the
Ron Milton
Association of County Gov
ernments’ required training
for certification, I have com
pleted more specialty track
training. But more import
ant than required training
is what I have learned inter
acting with the residents of
my district and the county.
I have gotten to know many
people in the county I other
wise would not have had op
portunity to meet. I believe
the most important thing
personally I can say from
my serving as commissioner
is that I have returned all
phone calls and mail, and
I have visited and looked
at any county problems a
citizen might be concerned
with.
There are many import
ant things happening in our
county in the next couple
years that require a con
certed and conservative
approach as they are dealt
with. Those things include
budgeting and taxation.
My promise if elected
for a second term would be
to continue to listen to the
citizens of the 5th District
and of all Morgan County
and to represent their
concerns when voting on
items that come before the
county commission.

Smith seeking re-election for coroner
To the voters and citizens
of Greene County, I would
like to thank you for allowing
me to serve you as Greene
County Coroner and I would
like to announce my can
didacy for reelection. I am
proud to say I have served
with Honesty, Loyalty,
Respect and Dedication. And
I further pledge to continue
to serve with these same at
tributes during the next term
as Coroner of Greene County.
For those who may not
know me or may be new
citizens to the Greene County
area, please allow me a
moment to introduce myself.
I have been Coroner for
Greene County during the
current 4 year term. I am a
lifelong resident of Greene
County and have devoted
my professional career of 29
years to public safety having
previously served in law en
forcement.
I currently serve as the
Director for the Greene
County Emergency Medical
Service. I am a licensed
Paramedic, Certified Emer-
B. Jeff Smith
gency Manager, serving as
the Deputy Emergency Man
agement Director for Greene
County, and a member of
the Greensboro and Siloam
Volunteer Fire Departments,
serving as Rescue Chief of
the Siloam VFD and Battal
ion Chief of the Greensboro
VFD.
As a member of the public
safety community in Greene
County, I seek reelection as
Coroner of Greene County,
so that I may continue to
serve the citizens of Greene
County.
I pledge to continue re
sponding to all incidents
requiring the service of the
Coroner and will conduct
the responsibilities of the
Coroner in a profession
al manner with respect,
dignity, and courtesy for
the loved ones and families
involved.
I have witnessed first-hand
how the Coroner’s role can
make a difference to people
during the worst of times,
those times when they are
dealing with the death of a
loved one. I care enough to
be there to extend all the as
sistance I can to the families
to fulfill the mission of the
Coroner, but to also help my
fellow citizens.
I offer my service to Greene
County and appreciate your
support and vote for the
office of the Greene County
Coroner. I fully understand
the importance of the Coro
ner’s Office and will dutifully
and loyally serve the people
of Greene County. Please
vote to reelect B. Jeff Smith,
for Greene County Coroner.
Sincerely, B. Jeff Smith
Riden announces run for Morgan District 3
Ben Riden Jr., of the
Bostwick/Fairplay area, has
announced his intention to
run for Morgan County Com
missioner, District 3. Riden is
a lifelong resident of Morgan
County. He graduated from
Morgan County High School
in 1975 and from the Uni
versity of Georgia in 1979
with a Bachelor of Business
Administration in account
ing. He is a certified public
accountant with 35 years of
experience in governmental
auditing, accounting and
finance with the State of
Georgia. He retired recently
from the University System
of Georgia.

ington, who taught 32 years

Ben Riden Jr.
School before retirement in
2011. The Ridens have two
children, Matt and Garrett.
Ben Riden stated, “I am
not a politician and haven’t
run for any political office in
the past, however, I have been
approached by numerous
District 3 residents who
think my experience in the
governmental arena coupled
with my reputation for being
honest and straightforward
make me a viable candidate
for this position.”
“I don’t have a specific
agenda,” Riden said. “I
just want to serve people
with honesty and fairness.
If elected, I will serve my
constituents to the best of
my ability. I look forward
to speaking with District 3
residents to understand the
expectations they have from
their commissioner. Once I
understand their concerns,
I will work diligently to
address those issues. I
believe in efficiency and ac
countability in government.
A vote for me is a vote for an
efficiently run responsible
government.”
