Newspaper Page TextPage A2 Lake Oconee News Friday, March 18, 2016 MORGAN COUNTY Pickup A Ford F-150 pickup driver, who pulled to the shoulder of 1-20 when bed-carried cargo caught fire, was arrested on drug charges after firefighters noticed a mari juana brick among combustibles. According to an incident report penned by Morgan County Sher iffs Deputy Shawn O’Kelley, the truck fire happened near 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 9. As described in O’Kelley’s report and records filed with Morgan County Fire Rescue, the pickup driver, Tameika R. Gordon, 36, of Madison noticed fire in the truck bed, pulled to the emergen cy lane of eastbound 1-20 near mile marker 117 and phoned 911 for fire suppression. Firefighters were on scene when O’Kelley and Cpl Justin Hooper arrived and saw the F-150 flaming at its back half. Gordon told the lawmen a television hauled aboard the truck exploded and caught fire. After flames were put down, fire fighters began to overhaul still smoldering cargo. As they did so, they noticed a quantity of mari juana inside an aluminum cross bed toolbox burned open by the fire. O’Kelley identified the green leafy material inside (water logged by firefighting spray) as marijuana and arrested Gordon. He removed Gordon from the vehicle and again cuffed her with her hands behind her back—this time with the handcuffs hitched through a belt loop on her trousers. As he transferred Gordon to jail staff for processing, O’Kelley searched Gordon’s purse. He wrote he found in it three cell phones, $505 in U.S. currency and a Newport cigarette box that held a half gram of cocaine. After placing the found items into evidence, O’Kelley returned to his patrol vehicle and searched the rear seat compartment. On the floorboard he found a clear plastic bag that enfolded both a quantity of marijuana and a second plastic bag that held chunks of white, powdery material, O’Kelley recorded. The white matter, field tested positive for cocaine, weighed about 2.6 grams, O’Kelley wrote. It and the leafy material were placed into evidence. The evidence found in the patrol car was hidden inside a body cavity during Gordon’s ride to the jail, she revealed. The marijuana found aboard the burning truck was about a two-pound brick, Morgan County Fire Chief Jeff Stone said.
