MORGAN COUNTY Rape reported at store along I-20 Jeff Warren jeff@lakeoconeenews.us A 26-year-old female phoned 911 near 1 a.m. Sunday, April 24, to report she was sexually assaulted when she stopped alone to relieve herself behind a closed filling station near an Interstate 20 exit ramp. The woman said she was traveling that night from a family gathering in Cobb County back to her home in Columbia, S.C. when she made the restroom break near the tree line behind a filling station SEE RAPE » A3 Jeff Warren/Staff The Pit Stop Chevron convenience store on Seven Islands Road at 1-20 Exit 121 is identified by law enforcement as a possible location of an after-hours rape Sunday, April 24. The victim has been unable to definitely identify the location where the assault took place. MORGAN COUNTY Unattended death ruled accidental Jeff Warren jeff@lakeoconeenews.us A man discovered dead Sunday night, April 24, in his Nolan Store Road residence at Bostwick, is believed to have died as the result of an accident and not foul play, explained Capt. Christopher Bish of the Morgan County Sheriffs Office. Dead is Sean Thomas Brown, age 63. According to Bish, Brown’s adult son discovered his body Sunday evening after Brown’s last communication with family happened days before. SEE CANDIDATES, PAGES A2-3 GREENE COUNTY Man hides marijuana in pants Jackie Gutknecht jackie@lakeoconeenews.us An Eatonton man was arrested after attempting to conceal his mar ijuana in the crotch of his pants on April 20. Graeme Michael Brook, 419 N. Jef ferson Ave., Eatonton, was arrested and charged with possession of mar ijuana less than an ounce. Greene County Sheriffs Deputy Conrad Easley initially conducted a traffic stop on Johnathan Huddelson, the driver of a 2009 Pontiac G6 for having a non-illuminated head light at Publix on Highway 44. Brook was a passenger in the car. Easley questioned Huddelson about the headlight and the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He reportedly said there was no marijuana in the car. Easley then had Brook exit the car and noticed green residue on Brook’s pants. “Deputy Easley questioned Mr. Brook about the odor of marijuana, to which Mr. Brook stated there was none in the car, but he had previous ly smoked some,” according to the GCSO incident report. Easley conducted a probable cause search of the car based on the odor. He noticed marijuana residue on both the driver’s and passenger’s side and a “white, hand-rolled joint containing suspected mari juana laying on the passenger seat,” according to the report. Easley placed Brook in handcuffs, advised him of his Miranda Rights and asked how much marijuana he had on him.
