Publix to be renovated
The Publix grocery store, located at
6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, will undergo
a full renovation later this year, according
to Publix’s Georgia Media and Community
Relations Manager Brenda Reid.
The renovation is scheduled to take
about six months to complete, she said.
“No real details yet on what is going to be
happening just because of the competitive
nature of the grocery business, we don’t
want to put too much information out
there too soon,” she said.
According to property records available
on the Greene County website, the Publix
building was built in 2002 on 9-57 acres of Jackie Gutknecht/Staff
land and is 56,520 square feet. Lake Country's Publix, located at 6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, will
- Jackie Gutknecht undergo renovations later this year.

A who’s who of celebrities turned
out for the sixth annual United Way
Celebrity Fundraiser Monday night
at the Chophouse. Even Elvis Presley
showed up despite rumors of his
death in 1978.
Chop House customers who
attended the event can boast that they
were once served by the likes of Kim
Kardashian (Terri Smith) and Katy
Perry (Tara Fox). Even a Fall Fairy
Fortune Teller (Diane Yost) showed
up and threatened poor tippers with
another month of 90-degree heat.
The famous Dr. Jimmy Stokes,
who was actually Dr. Jimmy Stokes
and not someone dressed up like Dr.
Jimmy Stokes, got the evening going
with a welcome and tipped off cus
tomers that all donations to the wait
staff would be part of the fundraiser’s
proceeds.
Following a tasty Chophouse
dinner, an auction was held that gave
participants a chance to bid on several
items including rounds of golf and
hotel stays at Reynolds Lake Oconee,
Falcon’s tickets, UGA football tickets,
a set of tires from Greensboro tire
and a photo shoot with Brandy Angel.
Items to be auctioned were worth
more than $9,000.
The goal of this year’s United Way
