A steady stream of voters kept the Greene County polling booths busy on Tuesday, Day 2 of early
voting.

Lake Oconee has been two feet below "full pool" for a few
weeks, causing problems for property owners and boaters.

Sandra Wood came out of
the polling booth with a smile.
“I didn’t want to deal with the
crowds and I already knew who
I was going to vote for,” she said.
Voting early on Tuesday in
Greene County, Wood said she
made up her mind about the pres
idential candidates two months
ago. She thinks her friends are
doing the same.
By noon on Tuesday, 475 resi
dents had cast their ballots in the
first day and a half of early voting,
according to election supervi
sor Kathleen Mayers. Another
150-160 absentee ballots were
received by mail.
Mayers says there are about
11,000 registered voters in
Greene County. “Of our active

Since even Georgia Power

“Also,” she says, “this is a good
time for dredging.”
It is good advice. Take a ride

HPC issues statement on zoning rules
Katherine Klimt

There was only one item on the
agenda for Friday’s called meeting
of Madison’s Historic Preservation
Commission: what stance the HPC
would take regarding recent contro
versial text amendments proposed
for the Madison Zoning Ordinance.
The suggested amendments would
have removed the Foster/Miller/
Friesan property from the Historic
District and opened it up for residen
tial and commercial development.
These amendments were proposed
after an initial request to rezone the
area to allow for the construction
of 37 cluster homes was withdrawn
before it could be presented to the
Planning and Zoning Commission
(PZC). The changes have been met
with strident opposition from local
property owners, who argue that
they would fundamentally alter the

After a lengthy executive session
during Friday’s meeting, HPC Chair
Steve Schaefer issued a statement
regarding the amendments and
the HPC’s future course of action:

Who you choose to work with in real estate makes all the difference...
"Alyce and Jonathan Vining have been nothing but the best Realtors we
could have asked for during our extended process to find the perfect lake
home. Their patience and diligence to find exactly what our family wanted
and needed is so greatly appreciated! We have found a home that is perfect
for our family to grow into. They were always willing to make time during
their busy schedule to accommodate our multiple visits to Lake Oconee to
see as many homes as we wanted. Post-closing date, they continue to help
with all the final questions our family has for our moving process to a new
area. We would 100% recommend The Vining Croup to help assist you in
looking for the best home on Lake Oconee!" — BEV EVANS
