GREENE COUNTY
Most people will vote early, not Election Day
Mark Engel
engel@lakeoconeenews.us
They just keep coming. It was
4:30 on Tuesday afternoon and
a short queue formed outside the
only room in Greene county where
people could vote early.
Election supervisor Kathleen
Mayers said that as of that moment
4,981 had already cast their ballots,
either in person or by mail.
That’s nearly half of the 10,800
active registered voters in the
county. She had “no idea” how
many would vote on the last three
days of the week.
“People get busy and say ‘oh, I’ll
do it next week,”” she said, “but

MORGAN COUNTY
Roadwork resumes on Highway 441 south of 1-20
Paving operations on the $4.18
million resurfacing and shoulder
rehabilitation project on US 441
beginning south of Reids Road and
extending to Interstate 20 resumed
earlier this week.
Citizens should expect delays and
lane closures for this work. Contrac
tors are working from the Putnam
County line back to Eatonton with
leveling and single surface treat
ment. Then the crews will turn
around and head back toward
Morgan County.
As weather allows, general
work hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday through Friday and also on
some weekends until the project is
complete.
The more than 17-mile resur
facing job should finish in early
December. To date, all the major
roadway patching is done.
The Georgia Department of
Transportation advises motorists
to slow down when approaching a
work zone and allow extra distance
between vehicles. Motorists should
also read signs, obey road crew
flaggers and expect the unexpected.
Monitor 511ga.org or download
the app to stay current on all
upcoming lane closures. Georgia
DOT East on Facebook and @
GDOTEastTraffic on Twitter also
provide daily updates.
