GCHS Entrepreneurship class celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week In celebration of Global Entre preneurship Week, marketing and entrepreneurship students from Greene County High School visited the headquarters of Peach State Pride in Watkinsville. The first stop on the trip was to Empire South, Peach State Pride’s first retail store. There the Peoples Continued from Bll you use your GPS to make the attractors. I have several structures made from hardwood trees that I try to improve or add to those structures students met with owners Derek and Kari Beth Chitwood and one of their managers. The students learned about the inventory sys tem for the store and had the opportunity to see the various products that Empire South sells. This was the first time that each of the students had visited about every two to three years. I now use wild bamboo since bam boo will last a considerable time and has other benefits. One problem with many woody products is density. Most Christ mas trees are evergreens that have limbs and foliage that are too dense. They will attract small baitfish because baitfish can hide the store. After touring the store, the group then toured the compa ny’s warehouse. There Derek told the story of how Peach State Pride started from a sketch that he captured while sitting in a history class. After much hard work and dedication, Peach in the dense foliage. However, larger fish will find it difficult to hide and maneuver within the tree. The density problem with ever greens is what led me to initially using hardwoods and then led me to using wild bamboo. The bam boo is readily available, easy to work with and comes in lengths State Pride products are now in over 100 retail stores across the Southeast. GCHS students enjoyed learn ing about the start of this suc cessful business and how it has evolved over the past seven years. Kari and Derek answered many questions from students about from five to 25 feet. That makes it suitable for almost any depth of water. It weighs much less than evergreens and hardwoods and is not nearly as dense. If you are not inclined to build your own fish attractors, the Georgia Wildlife Resources Divi sion has been placing attractors in both Lake Oconee and Lake topics ranging from starting a business, college majors that would help in starting a busi ness, inventory management and many others. The entrepreneurship students learned a lot about the “behind the scenes” side of starting and running a business. Sinclair for the last several years.
