Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club 2016 Youth of the Year, Sterling Billingsley receives the award for the Regional Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Georgia Youth of the Year.
He will compete at the State Level this month.
Billingsley named PNC Youth of the Year
The Pete Nance Boys &
Girls Club (PNC) is honored
and proud to announce
Sterling Jermaine Billings
ley as not only the 2016 Pete
Nance Boys & Girls Club
Youth of the Year but also
the 2016 Boys & Girls Clubs
of North Central Georgia
Youth of the Year.
Billlingsley, a 17-year-old
junior at Greene County
High School, was raised by
his mother, Linda Billings
ley. Despite losing his father
when he was 18 months
old, his mother encouraged
his involvement in recre
ational activities and com
munity events. During his
elementary years, he was
involved in sports at the
Greene County recreational
program. In middle school,
he played football, joined
FHA and was introduced to
the culinary arts program.
Sterling went on to be part
of the Brother-to-Brother
program and served in that
capacity throughout middle
and high school.
PNC opened its doors five
years ago, and Billingsley
immediately joined the club
and found male mentor
ship in the PNC Passport
to Manhood Program. He
remains an active member
of PNC and is a leader at the
club and in his school.
He was selected to serve
for two years on the Greene
County Schools Superin
tendent Advisory Council.
In November 2016, he was
selected to be on the Greene
County High School CTAE
Leadership Academy Team
where he currently serves
and takes an active role in
school events, peer discus
sions, community events as
well as social and speaking
events.
Sterling has had a passion
for the culinary arts since he
was introduced to cooking
at the age of 14. He plans to
pursue culinary as his career
path and attributes his drive
and success to his mother,
his church family, the Pete
Nance Boys & Girls Club,and
many educators along the
way.
“Joining the Club in
2011,gave me a chance to
structure my life and become
a better person,” Billingsley
said. “The Club offered a
place to spend quality time
with my peers and build
positive relationships with
adults. The Club allows me
to serve in the community,
giving back to those who
are in need as well as to
those who support the Club.
Having the Pete Nance Boys
and Girls Club in the com
munity has indeed been a
great opportunity for me and
it offers a great opportunity
for the community.”
Billingsley has been
selected as the Regional
Youth of the Year and will
compete at the State level
Feb. 20 in Atlanta.

City councilman proposes salary increase
At the most recent city
council work session, coun
cilman Joe Diletto proposed
raising the stipend council
members receive from the
current $450 per month to
$650. No official proposal
has been submitted to the
city council as yet, and
any salary change would
require a change to the city
charter.
Diletto explained that he
was seeking the increase
because being on the
council “is a part-time job
but a time-consuming one,”
pointing out that most of
the council members have
other pressing demands on
their time, such as children
and full-time work. He also
suggested that increasing
the rate of pay may have
the effect of stimulating
interest in running for
council seats among the
general public.
As this suggested change
is still very much in its
early stages, the budgetary
impact is as yet unknown.
