PHOTOS BY LEIGH LOFGREN/STAFF The fourth annual Denim & Diamonds gala, benefiting the Lake Oconee Academy was held Saturday evening at the Ritz Carlton on Lake Oconee. Following a VIP sponsor reception, guests arrived and were able to bid on a large array of silent auction items before entering the beautifully decorated ballroom for the welcome, blessing and dinner. Sponsors recognized were Georgia Power, Champagne Sponsor; Diamond Sponsors, Aalto Scientific, Bank South, Bug House Pest Control, Mr. Dick Schmidt and Tommy Jeffords with Blasingame, Burch, Garrard, Ashley and Reynolds Lake Oconee. At the Gold Level were American Pest Control, Denis and Sheila Shanklin, Fowler Flemister Concrete, JM Williams Contractors; The Glen at Lake Oconee; The Vining Group and Wilhoit Gas. Following dinner, the live auction commenced that included packages to the 2017 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Race; Kennedy Space Center astronaut training; Napa Valley balloon ride and wine tour or an escape for eight to a Tuscan villa. These were just a few of the 17 incredible items in the live auction! Dancing began after dinner, the silent auction closed, raffle winners announced and at 11 p.m., fond farewells. Three of the lovely ladies of Lake Oconee: Dr Patti Bradley, Karen Smith and Angie Windham. Janie and Don Phipps from Harbor Club were one of the many attendees at the "Denin & Diamonds." Tren and Karen Watson, Angela and Jay Dell with Drs. David and Patti Bradley. LOA Foundation launches capital campaign The Lake Oconee Academy Founda tion hosted another successful Denim & Diamonds fundraiser event on Feb. 18, 2017 at The Ritz-Carlton Reyn olds, Lake Oconee. The annual com munity event was a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) and an opportunity to announce exciting news regarding the expansion of the LOA high school campus. LOA’s story began in 2007 when 11 kindergarteners and their families walked into a local church to embark on an educational journey that no one knew for sure where it would lead. They had big ideas about what could be accomplished, but probably did not realize success would come so quickly.
