Henry Timberlake and Cherokee leader Ostenaco as they journeyed to each other's countries in 1762, as Emissaries of Peace. The contrast between their cultures is shown in this exhibit. The exhibit is based on Timberlake's Memoirs, along with period artwork, artifacts from archeology and historical collections, and other 18th century accounts. The center is also hosting a gallery show of traditional carved wooden masks, all of which are avail able for purchase. Friday, March 17 Join the Conservancy for its annual membership supper atop one of the highest points in Morgan County. The historic Malcom's Crossroads barn is the site of this annual event celebrating the Conservancy's membership and the organi zation's accomplishments over the past year. This year, at tendees will be able to tour the circa 1902 historic commis sary, which was an integral part of the Malcom's large tenant farming operation at the turn of the 20th century. Join us for a chili supper sourced from local meats and veggies to celebrate Georgia's first countywide conservancy and their work in heritage conservation in Morgan County. Saturday, April 1 The Boys & Girls Club and The Madison Artists Guild have teamed up to put the fun in fundraiser. Proceeds raised from the event will help pay for the organization's upcoming trip to DECA's International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Ca. GCHS DECA will receive 15 percent of all or ders placed by customers who say they are there to support DECA. Customers will not be charged an additional amount. Thursday, March 23 The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is presenting a public speaking event by Bill King, Interim CEO of Pen- field Christian Homes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting people with drug and alcohol addiction from a Christian perspective. ATHENS/CLARKE Saturday, March 18-Tuesday, March 21 Athens' independent cinema, Cine, will be hosting the annual Jewish Film Festival. The festival brings quality Jewish films to Athens and showcases a variety of feature films, shorts and documentaries. This four-day event encourages the review, discussion and celebration of films of Jewish interest through a short film competition, conversation with visiting filmmakers and academics, as well as an Opening Night Cel ebration and a Closing Night Event. The eight films include offerings from Israeli, German and American filmmakers across a variety of genres, from fantasy to documentary. Saturday, March 25 The State Botanical Garden is hosting its fifth annual fun run to promote sustainability and benefit the Small Dreams Foundation, the UGA Office of Sustainabilit, and the Bo tanical Garden. Runners, walkers, and strollers are welcome, and learn about sustainability as you go at your own pace along the course. The run begins at 9 a.m., and space is very limited. There will be tennis shoe recycling onsite for old or worn-out sneakers. Registration is online and is $30 for non-students and $20 for students. There will be a pre-race party Friday evening at Grindhouse Killer Burgers from 6 to 10 p.m., and a post-race reception at the Five Points location of Your Pie. The parade will take place on GMC's Grant Parade Field at 2:30 p.m., located at 201 E. Greene Street Milledgevill. GMC president LTG William B. Caldwell IV will host the ceremo ny. The guest speaker will be Major General Christopher P. Hughes, the Commanding General for the United States Army Cadet Command. Nearly 800 of GMC's Prep School Cadets and Junior College Cadets will also participate in the parade. This event is free and open to the public. Saturday, March 25 Georgia Military College is hosting its spring open house from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event begins with an information ses sion in the Goldfield Center, and features campus tours and financial aid assistance.
