Michael Stone michael@lakeoconeenews.us A 71-year-old Greensboro man is in jail on charges of sexual battery and molesting a seven-year-old girl. According to an incident report obtained from the Greene County Sheriffs Office, Angel Nolazquez Alvarado was arrested by the Deputy Eh Franks of the Greene County Sheriffs Office last Saturday at 1150 Pool Road. According to Captain Tommy Nelson, Commander of Investiga tions for the Greensboro Police De partment, the incident took place on Feb. 24 at a Greensboro mobile home park. Police say the child’s grand mother alerted the child’s mother. Police were contacted the next day, and an investigation was con ducted. Following the investigation, warrants were obtained for Alvara do’s arrest. Franks recognized Alvarado standing in the yard of Lot 13 in the trailer park and told him he was under arrest for sexual battery and child molestation. MORGAN COUNTY Man charged for brutal assault on his father Katherine Klimt katherine@lakeoconeenews.us Shortly before 9 p.m. on St. Pat rick’s Day, Morgan County Deputy Christopher Lash was dispatched to the Morgan Memorial Hospital emer gency room in response to an assault that continued over the course of three days according to the alleged victim. Kerry Schneider, 56, of Buckhead, told Lash that the incident had begun on March 15, when his son, Corey Schneider, 26, may have broken one of his ribs. Pearson earned state champion honors in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking in the GHSA Region 7 Area 8. After placing first in the regional competition, Pearson earned a position at the state level competi tion among eight contestants from five area high schools. Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking is a public speaking contest in which contestants are provided a selec tion of topics dealing with current national issues that have been discussed in periodicals since Sep tember 1 of the current year. Each contestant draws three topics and must select one of the three to address in competition. A contes tant is then allotted 30 minutes to plan and organize his/her speech and seven minutes to deliver the speech. The criteria forjudging the competition includes: (a) analysis of topic (b) organizational skills (c) logical support (d) language skills and (e) delivery skills. Pearson’s Chandler Pearson speech addressed the question, “Did Hillary Clinton’s WikiLeaks controversy hurt her chances to be elected President?” Pearson earned an average score of 98.5 out of 100 from the judges. “Congratulations to Chandler as LOA’s first state champion,” said Dr. Otho Tucker, CEO of LOA. “It is very rewarding to watch high school students excel and make a mark in LOA’s first entry into these various competitions.
