Corrado Ristorante. They
opened it together in 2010,
hoping to share their passion
for simple, delicious meals
accompanied by impecca
ble service. Their shared
love for cuisine began when
they met in Rome, Italy,
in 1997- Da Corrado Ris
torante was born from the
recipes of Corrado’s mother,
Giovanna. He is originally
from Sardinia but has lived
for extensive periods of time
in London and Rome. It is
the hope of Corrado and
April that their guests have
an Italian experience, not
just a quick forgettable
meal. Da Corrado Risto
rante is meant to be a warm
and inviting place, where
you come in as a friend, but
leave as family.
Each week during the year
2017, the Greene and Put
nam counties Rotary Club
will draw and announce a
new winner of 52 weekly
prizes—each valued at $300
or more. Again this year
are “Super Weeks” where
the winner will receive two
prizes that week, each with
a minimum value of $300!
Winning raffle stubs will be
added back into the raffle
pot of 1,000 tickets, allow
ing ticket holders the oppor
tunity to win multiple times
throughout the year!
The Rotary Club of
Greene and Putnam Coun

massive Rotary Interna
tional organization. The
Greene and Putnam Club
funds both local and inter
national charities, provid

Rebecca Davenport selected for
the 2017 Southworks Exhibition
The narrative paintings of
Beaufort, South Carolina,
based artist Rebecca Dav
enport will be featured in
STILL LIVES, the Oconee
Cultural Arts Foundation’s
(OCAF’s) Director’s Choice
Exhibition, which is a facet
of the Southworks National
Juried Art Exhibition. The
exhibit will be open April
7 - May 5 in OCAF’s Mem
bers Gallery.
Davenport’s paintings
communicate the human
condition as she sees it with
the ambiguous mixture
of good and evil, its fair
possibilities and wrinkle
limitations, its humble and
extravagant hopes and the
capacity to endure beyond
vanities. She does an exam
ination of herself exploring
the ironic combination of
the sensual and the spir
itual and an assertion of
understanding combined
with an incomplete defeat.
“I have always been
drawn to the narrative tra
dition, the tale of a flawed
face, a crumbling wall, an
empty room or an aban
doned amusement park,”
says Davenport. “I see
beauty in these things as
they have the patina of life,
the past confronting the
present, marked by ironies,
tragedies, joy, laughter,
frightening and fulfilling;
echoing the possibilities of
what is wished for.”
Davenport’s works are
held in public and private
collections including the
Baltimore Museum of
Art, Baltimore, Maryland,
the Chrysler Museum of
Art, Norfolk, Virginia,
Corcoran Gallery of Art,
Washington, D.C., National
Gallery of Art, Washington,
D.C., National Museum of

In conjunction with the
Director’s Choice Exhi
bition, the Southworks
National Juried Art Exhi
bition will be presented
in OCAF’s Main Gallery.
This annual juried exhibit
brings in several hundred
applications from talented
artists across the nation.
The exhibit will feature 71
works of art from 62 local
and national artists. All
artwork was selected by
juror Nandini Makrandi,
chief curator at the Hunter
Museum of American Art,
Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Southworks is essen
tial in providing the local
community and artists a
chance to see what the cur
rent trend is in the contem
porary art world. Because
today’s international art
world is more intercon
nected, complex and varied
than at any time in history,
the selection of 71 pieces of
artwork for this exhibit is
marked by a great diversity
in materials, techniques
and styles.
The Southworks National
Juried Art Exhibition will
open with a reception on
Friday, April 7, from 6 to 9
p.m. and continue April 8
through May 5. Reception
and exhibits are free and
open to the public.
OCAF is located at 34
School Street in Watkins-
ville. Gallery hours are
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday
through Saturday.

Lake Country arts scene blooms in April
Spring is blossoming all
through our beautiful Lake
Country, and it’s a great
time of the year to be out,
about and enjoying this
wonderful season.
Greensboro will be a
hive of activity this month,
beginning with “The Fairy
Tale Festival” on April 8
at Festival Hall. Children
are invited to dress as their
favorite fairytale charac
ter and perhaps meet that
character at the festival.
There will be royal carriage
rides, makeovers, a petting
zoo, bounce house and
music to keep the young
ones busy from 2 until 6
p.m. Admission is $20 for
children and $5 for adults..

festival. This event features
plenty of outdoor events
and activities for the whole

this year’s more anticipat
ed events will take place
indoors at Festival Hall as it
hosts nationally renowned
puppeteer David Stephens
for two shows (11 a.m. and 1
p.m) that are free to attend.
Stephens has worked on
“Sesame Street,” as well as
various Muppets produc
tions on stage and screen
and also performed at At
lanta’s legendary Center for
Puppetry Arts. The outdoor
main stage will feature
daylong live entertainment
while you enjoy browsing
the arts and crafts booths
and check out the classic
car display and feasting of
festival goodies.
April 29 brings “If
These Walls Could Talk,”
a Tour of Historic Greens

As part of the annual
“Madison Chamber Music
Festival,” Valentina Lisita
has been brought back by
popular demand and will
be on stage at the Madison
Morgan Cultural Center
April 9 at 4 p.m. Lisita
attended the Lysenko music
school for gifted children
and later at the Kiev Con
servatory. She currently
lives in the United States
and performs in many
prestigious concert venues
worldwide. A reception will
follow the concert. Tickets

A really special treat if
you’re a movie buff like me
is the film festival in Milled-
geville this month! It’s the
fourth annual, and I can’t
believe I didn’t hear of it
until this year. It’s five days
of films, panels and parties
April 26-30 and takes place
in various places around the
Georgia College campus as
well as a few key locations
in Milledgeville. Filmmak
ers coming from all over
the world cross borders and
oceans to attend this event,
bringing with them more
than 100 films this year.
Comedy, horror, romance
and sci-fi will grace the
screens of Milledgeville
during this festival which
attracts moviegoers from
all over as well. The biggest
event during these wild
five-day’s is the Gala which
invites filmmakers, guests
and donors to gather and
receive awards for the
movies screened during
the festival. The spookiest
tradition of this festival is
the horror film screening
out on the Central State
Hospital campus. It will
be an amazing week of
events for Lake Country
residents to ponder. Tickets
