Turtle Island Quartet, two-time Grammy Award winners, will take the MMCC stage on Friday, May 5 at 8 p.m. Turtle Island, known for innovative recordings and diverse projects ranging in style from jazz, classical, bluegrass to Indian music, joins forces with extraor dinary jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Making soulful and sweet connections, together they draw a blazing and virtuosic line from the early roots of jazz directly to Theolonious Monk, one of the geniuses of the modern jazz era. This concert is part of the 15th Madison Chamber Music Festival and is spon sored by Donna and Ralph Blanchard, The Brady Inn, South Arts and the Virgil P. Warren Foundation. On Sunday, May 7 at 4 p.m., the Grammy Jubilee Continued from B1 sponsored by the Greene County Farm Bureau and Extension office, had the mobile dairy unit on display for the festival. The mobile dairy trailer explained to festival goers the process of milk production with a live dairy cow. In between the mobile dairy demonstration, 4-H students explained how to show livestock at compe tition. On South Main Street, the Georgia Classic Cruisers car show had a record crowd. The car show featured nearly 150 antique, classic, muscle, hot rod and other special interest cars and trucks, stretching over four blocks. Once South Main Street was filled, the Geor gia Classic Cruiser members rerouted cars to fill the First Baptist Church parking lot. In conjunction with the Southland Jubilee, Fes tival Hall, sponsored by the Farmers Bank, hosted a one-of-a-kind puppet show: “Billy Goats Gruff and Other Stuff’ by master puppeteer David Stephens. Living up to its reputation of being “the everything festival,” Southland Jubilee was proud to bring this fam ily friendly one-man puppet show to downtown Greens boro. Kids and adults were delighted by the humor and antics of the characters in “Billy Goats Gruff and Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra returns for a second visit during MMCC’s 40th anniversary season. Come hear the symphony perform a musical journey through three capitols of Europe: Vienna, Paris and London, including Mozart’s “A Little Night Music,” Couperin’s “Pieces en Concert” with cellist Daniel Laufer and Haydn’s grandest symphony of all, the “London Symphony.” This is an afternoon designed to carry you away with great music from great cities played by the most celebrated symphony orchestra in the entire southern United States. The Madi son-Morgan Cultural Cen ter is a multi-disciplinary Other Stuff’ where Ste phens retold classic fairy tales and spun a few yarns of his own. To top off the day, Ray Saltamacchio’s Tang Soo Do Karate School show cased the talents and skills of advanced students. These disciplined pupils per formed impressive routines with nunchucks, boards and karate forms. Once again, Greensboro shined bright in the city’s largest annual event, a festi val that spotlights the town, celebrates local culture and draws all walks of life from around the region. It’s small town America at its best, the streets alive with people basking in the verdant glow of the South ern heartland in springtime.
