Lake Oconee News Friday, April 28,2017 Mark Engel/Staff Greensboro police officer Jonathan Thomas, Sr. is congratulated for his service to the city. Mark Engel/Staff Brock Michael Copeland took command of an armored SWAT vehicle on display at the first responder appreciation day event in downtown Greensboro. Greene County shows appreciation for LAW ENFORCEMENT Hundreds of local resi dents and first responders from Greene County, as well as the Georgia State Patrol, GBI and FBI spent Satur day afternoon enjoying the weather, the food and enter tainment in downtown Greensboro. BankSouth, Reynolds Lake Oconee and the Ritz-Carlton sponsored an appreciation day with dona tions going to support local police and fire personnel who devote their lives to protecting citizens against crime, fires and disasters. Event coordinator Sarah Peacock told Lake Oconee News that based on the number of wristbands they sold more than 400 people were there. James Hunter and the Southern Pride band pro vided the live entertain ment as folks checked out displays of first responder vehicles, had a chance to speak with the professionals and enjoyed some hot dogs, burgers and a variety of side dishes. Politicians including Congressman Jody Hice, Greensboro Mayor Glenn Wright and Greene County Commissioner Ernie Filice mingled with the crowd.
