Michael Stone michael@lakeoconeenews.us Folks in rural Morgan and Greene Counties may not need to communi cate with smoke signals and carrier pigeons before too much longer if a new internet service unveiled by AT&T works out as planned. Last Monday afternoon before a small crowd at the Chophouse restau rant, AT&T spokesman Daniel Hayes announced that the company has completed the first-ever installation of Fixed Wireless Internet availability, and it’s in the Buckhead area of Morgan County. “I am thrilled to see Morgan County residents among the first in the nation to be able to connect to this service and have the high-speed internet con nections that we need in our homes,” said State Senator Burt Jones. “While private industry is investing heavily in our state, we need to make certain SEI INTERNET » AlO Contributed A truck and an SUV collied on I-20 and wound up sitting side-by-side against the guard rail. According to the Greene County Sheriffs Office, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado heading westbound on the in terstate hydroplaned, crossed the median and struck a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. GREENE COUNTY Greensboro putting the brakes on 'Jake braking' Mark Engel engel@lakeoconeenews.us To merchants and visitors in Greensboro’s historic district, it may seem like the only way big trucks can get from here to there is through the downtown red light at Main and Broad Streets. Logging trucks carrying trees or large trac tor-trailer rigs traveling north-south on Highway 15 or east-west on Highway 278 or straight south on Highway 44 to Putnam County all pass through the intersection. “You can imagine what it’s going to look like when Highway 44 is widened,” laments Greens boro city manager Larry Postell. A 11 T [ 1 PKIr » The Greensboro City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance that will prohibit large trucks passing through the city to use their so-called "Jake Brakes" to stop the vehicle at red lights. The proposal is designed to cut down the amount of noise created by the alternative braking system. Last Thursday, a little more than a week after he told The Eatonton Messen ger he thought the district attorney was pursuing a murder charge on him, a Fulton County Grand Jury indicted Mclver on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravat ed assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and three counts of influencing witnesses. Count 1 of the indictment, “Murder” says “Mclver....
