Friday, May 19, 2017 Lake Oconee News Page A7 INCIDENT REPORTS Road rage incident lands man in jail A Greensboro man was arrested last week on disorderly conduct charges after another motorist said he ran him off the road, produced a shotgun and said he would use it. According to the incident report, Deputy Willliam Smith III met with a Robert Cook who said that while he was driving on Hwy 278 toward Greensboro, a brown Jeep began tailgating him. The Jeep continued to follow him after he turned on Hwy 15 toward Watkinsville. After crossing the bridge near Greensboro, Cook said the Jeep passed him and slowed. Cook said when he attempted to pass the Jeep, the driver, later identified as Julian Beasley of Greensboro, ran him off the road. Cook told Smith that once he turned on Lickskillet Road, the Jeep stopped on Highway 15 near the dirt part of Lick skillet Road. The driver allegedly got out, cursed at Cook, reached inside the Jeep and pulled out a camouflage shotgun. Cook said the man never pointed the shotgun at him but did say he was going to shoot him. Cook told Smith that he subsequently followed the Jeep down Cold Springs Road to get the tag number. He then went to Finch’s Package Store on Hwy 15 and called 911. Cook gave Smith the tag number and deputies found out the Jeep was registered to Julian Beasley of 1621 Arrowhead Road. When deputies arrived at the address they found a Jeep parked in the yard. The hood was warm to the touch, indicat ing that it had been parked not long before. Beasley told the deputies that it was his Jeep and that he had gone hunting at 5 a.m., returning at 9 a.m. At first Beasley said he didn’t know anything about the incident and refused to talk about it without an attorney present. When advised that the deputies were obtaining a search warrant for his home, Beasley recanted and told deputies his version. According to Beasley, a Cadillac pulled out in front of him on Hwy 278 at Cotton’s Corner and drove “very slow” through town. Beasley said he passed the Cadillac which then attempted to pass him. He admitted to accidentally crossed the center line but said he did not make contact with the Cadillac. Beasley said the Cadillac stopped on Lickskillet Road and Cook got out the car and started walking toward him. Beasley said he grabbed his unloaeded shotgun and held it. Beasley said the two argued and cursed at each other before he got back in his Jeep and left the scene. According to Beasley, the Cadillac followed but he was able to lose him. Beasley said he told his wife he had made a mistake when he arrived home. Deputies confiscated the shotgun as evidence and arrested Beasley for disorderly conduct. - T. I noticed that he was holding a cigarette in his hand as we drove. He seemed anxious to light it, but I wasn’t about to suggest that he do that. I wondered how on Earth he was going to get himself situated, living in a motel and begging rides in the Wal-Mart parking lot. After a few moments, we arrived at the Relax Inn and he saw his girlfriend in the parking lot. Once again, he tried to give me his two dollars but I demurred. I turned into the Relax Inn parking lot and he started to get out. As he did, he said “oh no, she’s hit a car.” I looked to my right and saw that someone in a blue car had backed into another car. Good luck, bro, I thought. I hope you get that sorted out. I went home, cooked my pizza and watched the ball game. I will probably never know the outcome of that young man’s gamble, to move to Madison and start a career and noticed a couple arguing. He returned to his car but waited for a few minutes, noticing Benford exiting Marco’s first and proceeding towards Ping Wang restaurant. Cian franni then left the restaurant, and Bedford allegedly chased her down, grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the pavement. The witness told Davis that Cianfranni struck and slapped Benford twice, and Benford responded by punching her in the face and knocking her into the car, after which she fell to the ground unconscious. The witness then called 911, and attempted to wake Cian franni while he and another witness yelled at Benford to stop attacking her. The alleged victim woke up, but told Benford to “get her out of there.” When the witnesses attempted to persuade her not to get into the car, she told them “it wasn’t like what [they] thought.” Her face was visibly injured from the hit. The two then left the parking lot. As a result of Cianfranni’s visible injuries and the witness statements, Benford was placed under arrest for the assault. Photographs were taken of the alleged victim’s injuries. - Katherine Klimt Sleeping in a stolen SUV Deputy Joshua Wilson was patrolling on South Main Street when he was alerted by his ALPR (automatic licence plate recognition) system that a vehicle with a stolen license plate had crossed his path. Wilson turned his car around and followed the SUV as it turned into the McDonald’s parking lot near the interstate. In the meantime, dispatch notified Wilson that the license plate had been reported stolen by the McDonough Police De partment. According to the incident report, Wilson saw someone ap parently ducking under the steering wheel in an attempt to hide. Wilson positioned his patrol car directly behind the SUV and saw someone moving around on the passenger side of the vehicle. Wilson made contact with a female inside the vehicle who identified herself as Katie Williams. She told Wilson that her boyfriend, Kenny Jackson, had been driving the vehicle and had gone into the McDonald’s. According to the incident report, Wilson did not see anyone exit the vehicle. A subsequent search turned up no such person. Several prescription bottles belonging to Amy Williams were located inside the vehicle, but the female told Wilson that Amy was her sister. Deputies were later able to determine that the female was in fact Amy Williams and that she was trying to providing false information because she had an active arrest warrant in Florida. Williams continued to insist that she had been sleeping when she and her boyfriend pulled into McDonalds. Her story grew more elaborate as she told deputies that she had been with Jackson for four months and that he was abusive. She said she was glad to be safe among law enforcement officers. She added that she had been in a Tennessee hospital the previous week undergoing kidney surgery. She added that Jackson’s family had loaned him the SUV, although she found it odd that Jackson would have anything as nice as a Tahoe. Wilson’s VIN check on the Tahoe revealed that it had been stolen from Bibb County. Williams had described her boyfriend as approximately the same height as Deputy Wilson, but Wilson noticed that the position of the seat would have prevented someone that tall from operating the vehicle. Williams was arrested for theft and providing a false name and information to law enforcement. - T. Mich ael Stone with his girlfriend who ob viously couldn’t drive a car very well.
