Wil Petty, who has been working for the Lake Oconee News, has been named associate editor. Brandi Harrison will remain on staff in advertising sales. Matt Smith said he looks forward to working with the staff to produce a quality product. “I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work with our enthusiastic Baldwin Bulletin staff,” he said. “Our goal is to provide our loyal patrons with the most factual and pertinent infor mation possible.” Mark Smith said he looks forward to reaching existing and new readers with a strong product. “We are excited to add The Baldwin Bulletin to our coverage in the area,” he said. “The Bulletin has had a solid base of loyal readers for many years.” The publisher added that he is the fifth generation of newspaper people in his family. Holcomb praised the school board’s conservative budgets for its excellent ratings. The initial offering was sold with an interest rate of 1.9 percent. Holcomb said the bonds met with such interest when they were made available that $82 million in orders were received for just $15 million in bonds available. The school system will spend more than $27 million to construct and equip the high school and career academy and another $18 million to fund the new middle school. Total cost of improve ments is expected to be more than $46 million, including the cost of the new transpor tation facility. The bonds will be repaid using sales tax revenues. Rollback millage rate Board members are hoping to hold the line on the millage despite some increases in expenditures coming in the next year. The school system will take in more than $30 million in revenue next year with $16 million coming from state sources and $13 million in property taxes.
