Holland Frederick Zeck Nov. 27,1940-July 11,2017 Rolland Frederick “Fritz” Zeck, age 76 Greensboro passed away, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at his home with his loved ones. Even though Fritz will be greatly missed, he didn’t want to be mourned, just remembered as a person who loved life. At Fritz’s request, the family will hold a celebration of Fritz’s life later this year. Fritz was born in Sandusky, Ohio Nov. 27,1940. He was the only child of the late Frederick Harry “Doc” Zeck and Berma Glass Zeck. Fritz graduated from Sandusky High School and furthered his education at Franklin College and Ohio University. While working at Columbus and Southern Electric, he met and married Sandra Alice Adams of Coshocton, Ohio and on June 24, 2017 They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with their children and grandchildren. Fritz found his calling in the lighting industry starting his career at Abolite Lighting under the direction of George Siegrist. In order to further his career, he moved his family to Americus to work for Metalux Lighting and Larry Comer, who entrusted him to start and move the division of Lumark Lighting to Dallas, TX. After Metalux and Lumark were purchased by Cooper Lighting, Fritz became Vice President of Sales under Dan Thomson and Ralph Jackson and was promoted to President of Cooper Lighting in 1994 until he retired in 2002. For fifty-one years, Fritz was a member of the Elks Club. He had a passion for golf, fishing, WWII history, food, travel and his grandchildren. He was a great leader, friend, husband and father and celebrated life to the fullest everyday. He never worried about what might happen but instead focused on the present. One of his favorite sayings was “Don’t worry about the mule going blind, just hitch up the wagon and pull on the line”. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Sandra Zeck of Greensboro; a daughter, Laura Zeck and her husband Jesse Doquilo of Seattle, WA; a son, Adam Zeck and his wife Katie of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Grace Doquilo, Noah Zeck and Chloe Zeck, other relatives and many friends. The family requests memorial donations be made to The American Heart Association or the National Psori asis Foundation. The owner, address and phone number remains the same, but the change in company will provide visitors to Greene County with more options. Wil Petty/Staff A new sign is now up welcoming visitors to the Quality Inn. The transition to becoming a Choice Hotel was made on July 1. Hotel converts to Quality Inn Wil Petty wil@lakeoconeenews.us A Greensboro hotel changed companies and its name over the holiday weekend. The old Jameson Inn, located at 2252 S. Main St., was converted to a Quality Inn and Suites. The sign greeting visitors off Inter state 20 is being modified as well. Betty Patel, manager of the establishment, said only the hotel’s name has changed, and the hotel would continue offering the same amenities it was already offering. Those include free continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, a fitness center, outdoor pool and laundry facilities. The only major differ ence, Patel said, is the hotel’s participation in the Choice Privileges program. The program is a points- based system which allows frequent visitors to Choice hotel locations, to qualify for free stays and discount ed rates. Patel said the hotel offi cially became Quality Inn and Suites on July 1. The location had been a Jameson Inn since 2001. Alongside Quality Inn, Maryland-based Choice Hotels also owns other brands including: Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn and Sleep Inn. This is the second Choice Hotel affiliate in the Lake Country region, with an ad ditional Quality Inn already located at 2201 Eatonton Rd. in Madison. The company has other locations in nearby Athens, Conyers and Milledgeville as well. Jameson Inn was part of Vantage Hospitality which was recently sold to the Red Lion Hotels Corpora tion. Alongside Jameson Inn, the Spokane, Wash ington-based company owns other hotels including Americas Best Value Inn and Country Hearth Inn and Suites. Jameson Inn still has nearby locations in Augusta, Conyers and Winder. For more information on Choice Hotels, visit: http:// www.choicehotels.com/. Dudley Continued from A5 steel.” Yowza! The “treat her like a queen” strategy has never worked. It doesn’t build a re lationship - it builds “expec tations.” Men just don’t have the stamina or memory to pull it off. We are self-cen tered, self-absorbed and self-ish. There, I said it out loud. Now can we move on? Fortunately, women in tuitively know that men are basically three-toed sloths with the nesting habits of an armadillo, asking nothing more from life than a full stomach and a warm sty. The good news is that they’re okay with this!! Women love a worth while project, and they are convinced that beneath our covetous disposition and Shrek-like appearance lies Prince Charming (yuk, yuk). P.T. Barnum was right. God gave women enormous resources of optimism and forgiveness to balance man’s limit less reserve of selfishness (Genesis 2:18...small print). But her resources will wither and die unless we, we selfish men, exercise them regularly. A woman gets frustrated when her man becomes “too perfect,” because the demolition and reconstruction of the man she loves into something actually worth loving is, believe it or not, a project she deems worthwhile!..? Go figure. So keep her on the journey and away from the destination. So what can we men do to improve our relationship with...them women? Well, that’s the REALLY good news: Just be you! Leave the toilet seat any way you want it, drink directly from the carton, blow your nose with one thumb, and when you leave your abode, leave it looking as if some burrow ing animal has been rooting for truffles. Yes, you will have to endure her seemingly endless “our home’s ap pearance is a reflection of us” lecture, which will end quicker if you DO NOT in terrupt. Just nod every time she pauses to catch a breath - which won’t be often. Hey, hey, get your eyes above her neck. Look Knuckle head, it’s important that you appear to be paying at tention, so try locking your eyes on the bridge of her nose while mentally replay ing every swing in today’s golf game. This won’t make her castigation any less crushing, but it might fix your slice. And don’t say ANYTHING until she finishes with, “Now will you promise me that blah, blah, blah, and that you will never blah, blah, blah, again?” Say, ‘Yes.” See, that wasn’t so bad. By the way, your golf swing does look a little “handsy;” might wanna see Charlie King about that. I know this sounds pretty easy, but life is not static and, unfortunately, women are not stupid. The woman who is just smart enough to breed, but not smart enough to talk, does not exist...get over it. Yes, your woman needs a project, but she wants to see results... even if they’re barely dis cernible. So give her some thing, even if it’s just hope, before her “optimism” turns into “realism.” Every so often, do some thing thoughtful...but not particularly helpful. Empty the dishwasher and put them on the wrong shelf, do a load of laundry and forget the soap, or try making the bed.. .does it look like a relief map of Colorado? Perfect. And don’t overdo it!! Remember, we’re managing expectations here. I hope this was helpful. If not...did you hear about those new chips from Apple? Scoggins Continued from A4 I knew I would miss their silly T-shirts and their shocked eyes the moment they realized Mrs. Scoggins could throw a football and play on a playground. I knew I would miss listening to their stories after every break, their amazement on TCH Mini Storage Buildings field trips and each of their individual personalities. Last year’s class will always hold a very special piece of my heart. For years I have wondered how teachers have room in their hearts for each of their new classes. This year I have come to a conclusion: They are simply superhe roes who God made with the super power of an extra big heart. They have this uncanny ability to love each student individually and at the same time the class as a whole. They never forget a class, just adding to the list of names etched on their hearts year after year. It’s one of the most beau tiful things I have ever wit nessed. But the kicker is they don’t do it alone. Last year, I was surrounded by three of the most encour aging, selfless teachers I have ever met. I had the privilege of working with them for 180 days and was welcomed into their team with open arms. Together the four of us loved each student in unity, putting their needs ahead of ours day after day, giving the best of us because they deserve it. Those three are the reason that this year’s nerves are different. Because in those still moments when I begin to get anxious about not knowing what the next 180 days will hold, I know that no matter what I won’t be doing it alone. As teachers and staff return to school in just a matter of days, pray for us. Trust that we are praying for all the little feet that will step into our hallways in a little over a week.
