GREENE COUNTY Greene County teen missing, may have joined religious cult A frantic Greene County mother has contacted the FBI regarding her missing teenage son, who she fears has been radicalized by online videos posted by a Christian-based religious cult operating out of Texas. Leah Dukes, who has held positions in Greene County as a member of the school board and Chamber of Commerce, said she hasn’t seen or heard from her 18-year-old son, Major, since last week. “Major left last Thursday, but we didn’t know he was gone until Friday,” said Dukes “It was a tough weekend,” she said this week in a tele phone interview. Dukes said she reported the incident to the FBI, but is in a precarious situation due to her son being at the age of legal consent. Dukes said her son had been watching online videos posted by a nefar ious “Brother Dave,” who, according to Dukes, in structed her son to destroy his birth certificate, liq uidate his possessions, abandon his family and flee to Texas. Dukes posted an emo tional video of her own on Facebook. Find and Bring Home Major Dukes has received over 5,000 shares. In her video, Dukes says she understands her son’s desire to be part of a ministry and spread the word of Christ. However, she said the ministry should “be led by people who truly live the Biblical life.” Dukes said the videos her son watched are titled “Living Waters” and “End Time Survivors.” Dukes also said her son was con tacted via email. Dukes said her son was last seen in the Dallas-ar- ea. According to one Facebook post, it is believed he is at a cult-like facility in Plano, Texas. Dukes said she has placed a small amount of money in her son’s bank account in order to facili tate the high school senior’s return home. At the very least, Dukes said she just wants to hear from her son to find out if he is safe and not being held against his will. - Dave Brown Tree Continued from A5 pasture. I walked around the front of the house to look. My heart exploded with grief and fear. A man with a chainsaw was cutting down the tree under TCH Mini Storage Buildings which my greatest fishing expeditions happened. Barefooted, I ran across the frost-covered grass, paid no mind to the sticky sweet gum balls that pricked my feet and I yelled. But he could not hear. By the time, I climbed the pasture fence and got his attention, one half of the tree was gone. It was a double-trunked tree. “Why???” I cried out. “Well, a limb was dead and it was blocking your view.” r - New - 7- Residential - * - Industrial - ■ Commercial - Gated & r Secured 10^15 10 x 20 10x25 'Guaranteed Lowest Price Call for love in Special 417 Pea Ridge Eatonton, GA 706-485-9979 There are no words. I came back to the house and I cried with the greatest of sorrow. And, because I cried so pitifully, Tink cried. He knows what trees mean to me. Especially those three. I cried because the tree that brought forth such sweet childhood memories lay in a heap with wonder ful green leaves flowering its limbs. “Worry not over what money and hard work can replace,” Daddy said often. Nothing could ever replace that tree. After a morning of heart break, I finally stopped crying. “Well,” I said. “It wasn’t Jesus’ will.” I never thought it would be a man and a chainsaw who took it down. I only prayed for protection from nature. Lesson learned. Ronda Rich is the best-selling author What Southern Women Know.
