Rotary honors top students for September The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Coun ties is pleased to announce the following Students-of- the-Month for September 2017: Jacob McMillian (Gatewood Schools), Guerin Evan Brown (Greene County High School), Bobby Hat field (Lake Oconee Acad emy), Anna Lyn Mobley (Nathanael Greene Acad emy) and Jada Burke (Put nam County High School). Jacob McMillian is a senior at Gatewood Schools. He is the son of John and Christa McMillian. An honor roll student, Jacob has received the Scholas tic Achievement Award for highest overall average in ninth, 10th and 11th grades. He is currently enrolled in MOWR dual enrollment classes through Gordon State College. He is a 2018 inductee in the National Society of High School Scholars, member of the National Honor Society, student government associ ation, Anchor Club, varsity debate team, Interact Club treasurer. He placed third in state in the domestic extemporaneous speaking region champion event and was a top 10 overall speaker in state in the GISA debate competition. In addition to his academic success, he has had many successes in athletics. He is a member of the varsity football team, receiving the Chaplain Award. McMillian has vol unteered in his community with over 300 hours of ser vice. He is also a member of the varsity baseball team. He plans to attend the Uni versity of Georgia or Mer cer University and major in biology with a focus in pre-medicine. He chose Martha Sammons as his teacher-of-the-month. Guerin Evan Brown attends Greene County High School and is the son of Eddie and Tina Brown. He is a governor’s honors program alumnus, former UGA agricultural intern, FFA state degree recipient, FFA discussion meet state finalist, HOSA epidemiol ogy state competitor, and alumnus of Youth Lead ership Greene. Brown is a member of the golf team and concert and marching bands as first chair bassist. He enjoys gardening, small- scale biology (hybridization) research and is a self-taught guitarist. He has served his community by participating in multiple roadside clean ups, book drives, Relay for Life events and volunteering at the local nursing home. He plans to attend Berry College or the University of Georgia to study biol ogy after college. His goal is to work on continuing research in both the micro biology and botany fields. He chose Scott Yearwood as his teacher-of-the-month. Bobby Hatfield, 2016 Greene County High School student-of-the-year, is a high honor roll student at Lake Oconee Academy. He is the son of Bob and Charity Hatfield. He was awarded AP Scholar with Distinction by College Board, second place in social studies at the State Beta Club Convention and received the Vincent J. Dooley athletic award in 2016. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Hatfield is very active at school, serving on the honor council and as senior class vice president. He is a 2016 graduate of Youth Leadership Greene. In the summer of 2017, he attended the United States Naval Academy summer seminar in Annapolis, Md., the United States Air Force summer seminar in Den ver, Co., and Georgia Boys State. He is an active mem ber of the Lakeside Church youth group. After college, Hatfield plans to be com missioned as an officer and serve our country in the United States military. He chose Clay McElheny as his teacher of the month. Anna Lyn Mobley is a senior at Nathanael Greene Academy and is the daughter of Jason and Ellen Mobley. She has earned the highest overall GPA and scholastic excellence awards throughout high school. She is the co-captain of the cheer squad, graduate of the Youth Leadership Greene program, and was elected as Miss NGA. She is also on the basketball, cheerlead ing, track and tennis teams. In addition, she enjoys sing ing, acting, literary and per forming in the one act play and spring musical. Mobley enjoys visiting the senior center, Boswell Parker Nursing Home and Greene Point Nursing Home.
