The Madison Artists Guild Gallery will be celebrating two
events: First Friday and the opening of our newest show,
MAGnificent Madison from 6 to 8 p.m. Come and enjoy the
camaraderie of fellow art lovers as you view all the ways
artists express their feelings about Madison, the com
munity, countryside and the folks who live here. For more

The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra swings into
Madison on Friday, Oct. 6. The Madison-Morgan Cultural
Center will host the orchestra as the first event of its 2017-
18 Performance Series. The event will be held in the hall on
Foster Street. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at
8 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 7
Main Street Madison will host the 13th annual Chili Cook-
Off in Madison's Town Park. Wrist bands for chili tasting
are $5 and go on sale at noon. The tasting begins at 12:30
p.m. sharp. Enjoy an artist and farmers market in Town
Park, compete in the Krystal's chili pup eating contest, sip
on beer and enjoy other fall festival foods and listen to live
music. There will also be activities for kids. Park activities
kick off at 11 a.m. and the event will wrap up at 4 p.m. For

Steffen Thomas Museum of Art presents its latest exhibit
"Works by Lucinda Bunnen Featuring Weathered Chromes."
Lucinda Bunnen is a well-known Atlanta photographer
and philanthropist who has created unusual photographic
works by exposing images on chrome plates to the ele
ments. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the museum on Bethany Road and is free to attend. For

Greene County Court House where they will receive an

Saturday, Sept. 30
Eatonton Main Street will host the seventh annual Briar
Patch Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free
and open to the public. The Briar Patch Arts Festival fea
tures arts, crafts and antique vendors, as well as food and
live entertainment. It takes place on the Eatonton Court
house lawn and surrounding streets.
Monday, Oct. 2
The Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce presents the
18th annual Taste of Eatonton at the Plaza Arts Center
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Taste local restaurants specialty
food items with wrist band. The event will feature a live
radio broadcast by Chip Lyness of DOCK 103.9 as well as a
cash bar and silent auction. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25

The Artisans Village Guild will sponsor a booth at the Arts
and Crafts Fair at Del Webb.

Middle school and high school students from all area schools
and home-schooled students are invited to register for a
video production and editing class to begin Oct. 10 from
4 to 6 p.m. at the Plaza Community Center. The cost is

host a lecture entitled "BBQ: A Brief History of an Ameri

Each month on the second Saturday, Mil ledgevil le Main-
street hosts a yard sale and handcrafted item event at The
Pavilion. The monthly event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until

The Deep Roots Festival is a lively cultural arts and mu
sic event that brings downtown Mil ledgevil le to life. The
festival begins at 10 a.m. and tickets are for the entire day.
The festival attracts locals, tourists and college students
and features live music ranging in genres from bluegrass to
rock 'n' roll. Guests can also visit the Old Capital Car Show,
artist market. Kids will have their own kids zone section.
The festival is also host to a sanctioned BBQ cook-off
contest. Tickets are $6 prior to the festival, $8 at the door

Friday, Oct. 6
The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) announces the
opening of its eighth annual Georgia small works exhibit.
This juried exhibit provides a visual forum for both estab
lished and undiscovered Georgia artists working in a small
format. In addition, two other exhibits are also opening.
"Roy Ward: Watercolors and Woodblock Prints" features
artwork by local physician and respected artist Roy Ward
(d. 2014), whose sweeping landscapes of local landmarks
will be of interest to Watkinsville area residents. His
elegant relief prints of flowers, landscapes and animals
will also be on display. "Southern Breezes: Visions of
Another Era" features the work of another local artist, Ann
Breedlove Powers. Her work focuses on gardens, residen
tial architecture and airy front porches, suggestive of days
gone by. An opening reception for all three exhibits will be
held Friday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8p.m. All exhibits will be on
display at OCAF's galleries at 34 School Street, Watkins
ville, Georgia through Nov. 3, 2017. Both the reception
and the exhibits are free and open to the public. For more

Chuck Murphy, local amateur photographer and photography
course instructor, will discuss the fascinating natural histo
ry of the American Crow when the Oconee Rivers Audubon
Society holds its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5,
at Sandy Creek Nature Center. The meeting will be held in
the Nature Center's Education and Visitor Center, 205 Old
Commerce Road off U.S. Highway 441 north of Athens. For

The 33rd annual North Georgia Folk Festival will be held
on Oct. 7, at Sandy Creek Park, 400 Bob Holman Road,
Athens. Music and kids activities start at 11:30 a.m. Folk
art vendors and craft demonstrators are from 11 a.m. to 6
p.m. Music includes Rebecca Sunshine Band, Cortez Garza,
Remedy Tree, Beto Cacao, Georgia Mudcats, Broken String
Band, Austin Darnell, South Carolina Broadcasters, MrJor-
danMrTonks, Klezmer Local 42, Boone Hood, Rob McCurry
and Sarah Zuniga. Admission to the festival is $15 (adults),
$8 (students with ID) and kids under 12 are free. There
is also a $2 per person (ages 4-64) park admission fee.
