Page BIO Lake Oconee News Friday, September 29,2017 GREENE COUNTY GREENE COUNTY GCCC to host revival The Greene County Con cerned Clergy will be hosting its annual fall county wide revival Oct. 4-6 at 7 p.m. nightly. The revival will take place at New Springfield Baptist Church in Siloam (Pastor R. Johnson). The guest speaker is the dynamic Rev. Clarence Moore of Good Shepherd in Augusta. Choirs and Churches from all over Greene County will be coming together to lift up the name of Jesus in worship and praise. The theme for this event is “A great Gathering of God’s people Worshipping together.” Our revival focus scripture is 2 Chronicles 7:14. Please make plans to join on any or every night. Friday night will focus on the youth as youth dance minis tries converge to share their gifts before the Lord. The GCCC is asking that each church family represent with a $50 love gift. Proceeds go to fund the revival and the Thanksgiving Day minis try. Lake Oconee Elks presents dictionaries, scholarships The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge donates dictionaries each year to all third grade students in Greene, Morgan and Hancock counties. A tablet or computer is not always available at home or school to conveniently look up a word for correct spell ing, meaning or proper pro nunciation of a word. The kids are always excited to receive their new dictionary. Lake Oconee Elks per sonally hand out each new dictionary to the kids at school and dictionary chair, Sally Rockey, explained how to use them, while drug awareness chair, Dom Serra, had an open dis cussion about drug aware ness. A colorful superhero bookmark illustrating the importance of “Just Say No to Drugs” is enclosed in each dictionary. In addition to the dictio nary program for third grade students, the Lake Oconee Elks also participate in the Elks National Foundation “Most Valuable Student” contest. Current high school seniors, or the equiv alent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants do not have to be related to an Elk. Male and female students compete separately and applicants are judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge also awards its own $1,000 scholarships to the top three male and top three female students that apply in the area, so make sure if you are a senior to apply before the deadline. From the students living in GCHFH homes, there are now 10 college graduates and 16 in college or the military. The students who recently graduated GCHS are: • Tatianna Dewitt who is currently attending classes at Georgia Gwin nett College and plans to work in the medical field. • Henry Neal is off to Lin coln Technical College in Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his passion of working with cars and aspires to own his own auto engineering business. • Roemell White is attend ing Athens Technical College classes at both the Greensboro and Athens campuses and plans to work in law enforcement. • Divad Dewitt is currently recovering from an auto mobile accident but plans shortly to join the U.S. Army. The students participate in the develop ment of the plan when in high school and upon com pletion earn a $500 scholar ship and a laptop computer. This includes those who helped build the houses, those who help run the GCHFH Affili ate, those who donated computers and those who made financial contribu tions to help build houses or support the Education Fund.
