The selected individual must be able to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and bushhogs, must have pipe fitting knowledge and have some basic knowledge of natural gas. The individual is expected to sit for and pass qualification tests in order to become a qualified gas technician within one year of the date of hire. Applicants with current gas qualifications are preferred. The job entails installing meters, radio transponders on the meters, locating and repairing gas leaks, occasional reading of meters and providing customer service in the field. Position will perform other duties as required and will be on call for emergencies. This job requires the selected individual to hold valid driver's license, a High School diploma or GED, the ability to read, write and comprehend complex written or oral directives, to translate those directives into operational plans, the ability to plan and prioritize work, and to adjust those plans to meet time limitations. The person must be able to see, hear, walk, stand, stoop, sit, carry packages and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, talk and have the mental capacity to attend and pass qualification coursework offered by the City of Eatonton.
