The lecture is free, but dona tions are appreciated. Dr. Craig S. Pascoe is a professor of American history at Georgia College. His specialty areas are 20th Century cultural history, modern Southern United States history, and Foodways, the study of culture and history through the lens of food tradi tions. He has presented his research on barbecue at numerous prestigious historical conferences such as the Food Heritage and Culinary Practices, Sorbonne Universities in Paris, the American Studies Association and National Council on Public History. He has also served as an advisor for the development of “Smokin’History: BBQin America” a museum exhibit forthcoming at the Atlanta History Center. He has served as a content advisor for television programs like Jamie Oliver’s “Naked Chef,” an episode about Georgia barbecue, and Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods episodes: “Southern BBQ Trail” and the “Civil War.” As part of his research on the topic of barbecue he has become a ‘trained’ BBQ judge and has judged over 50 contests includ ing Memphis in May, the Big Pig Jig in Vienna, the American Royal in Kansas City and the Jack Daniel’s International BBQ Compe tition.
