Mary Jane Sweat, of 189 Klondike Rd., was transportedfromthe scene of the wreck to Augusta University Medical Center on Sept. 16 where she died on Sept. 26. According to Georgia State Patrol report, Sweat was a rear seat passenger in a 2017 Ford Transit Van T-350 traveling east on 1-20 near mile marker 127 in Greene County. Morton james@lakeoconeenews.us At Tuesday’s morning meeting the Morgan County Board of Com missioners took up items concern ing “the zoo” from recommenda tions made by the planning and zoning board. The Georgia Zoo, LLC was required to come back before the board to seek re-approval for their project. The ordinance for their conditional use project only allowed for a total of 18 months; since that time had passed, the county was asked to give the okay a second time for the proposed 436-acre plus project that is being described as a safari with events and lodging and a significant educational impact on the region. However, some residents aren’t happy with what’s going on. They say that when the first proposals were shown, things were all about the animals. Michael Stone michael@lakeoconeenews.us Last week thieves targeted vehicles within the city limits of Madison. This week they broadened their horizons. On Sept. 26, a resident of Pintail Lane in Madison, reported that someone appar ently forced open his gate and entered through a sliding glass door at the read of his home. He told Sergeant Brian Collins of Morgan County Sheriffs Office that he found several dresser drawers open and clothes disturbed as he made his way through the house. The resident said several firearms were taken, includ ing a .20 gauge shotgun, a .35 caliber rifle, a 410 shotgun, a .22 long rife, and an antique World War II rifle.
