Recently, Fischlin purchased groceries for a stranger at a local grocery store and a few days later flew to Myanmar for her fourth volunteer mission this year. “Half of my suitcase is usually stuff to give away or to help. She is in charge of organizing teams of medical and nonmedical volunteers from around the world to travel to underserved coun tries, such as Myanmar, to provide children with free cleft lip and cleft palate treatments. “I say we go to these coun tries to change their lives, but they change our lives, too,” Fischlin said. Fischlin is also an active member and past president of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties and Second Harvest, as well as a volunteer and supporter of 100 Women Who Care Lake Country, Circle of Love Center, Victory Train and Atlas Ministry. Fellow Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee Realty/Lake Country Realtor, Maureen Golden, enrolled her rescue dog, Reilly, in obedience training to earn a Canine Good Citizen certificate so that the pair can join other members of the K9 Angels visiting schools, nursing homes and adult centers. Golden and Reilly also participate annually in “Camp Good Grief,” a youth bereavement day camp held in Milledgeville. And twice a year, they travel to the University of Georgia in Athens during final exams time. “The kids - like in masses - would come and cuddle with the dogs. They say it helps release stress,” said Golden, whose son has been among the UGA students who have stopped by for a bit of canine therapy. Once a month, Golden also volunteers with Putnam LifeSource food distribution program in Eatonton and a food bank program in Greene County to help provide food to hundreds of needy families. Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee Realty/Lake Country Realtor, Susan Couch, taps into her talent as an artist and an orga nizer to find ways to give back to the community. Couch serves on the fund raising committee for Lake Country Arts, formerly the Briar Patch Art Council.
