The controversial Foster Park
rezoning issue wasn’t on the
Madison City Council agenda
Monday night, but opponents
of the plan showed up to argue
that it should have been.
Before council could get into
its agenda, Elizabeth Bell and
Celia Murray challenged the
city’s right to delay a vote on
the zoning change until after
the election.
Bell and Murray said the
public hearing scheduled to
discuss the zoning issue had
been advertised in the Morgan
County Citizenlegal section for
the Oct. 9 meeting, requiring
the city to settle the matter
Monday.
City attorney Joe
Reitman said that

Instead of just basking in the after
glow of remaining open and serving
grateful customers after the Lake
Oconee region was plunged into dark
ness by the remnants of Hurricane Irma,
there is growth planned for Publix in the
immediate and not-so-distant future.
According to Brenda Reid, media
and community relations manager, a
15,000-square foot expansionis already
underway at the 44,000-square foot
facility, and online grocery shopping -
as well as curbside pickup and perhaps
even delivery- couldbe available shortly.
Reid advised patience with
delivery, but said additional cus
tomer service will be available

A preeminent property
planned for Reynolds at Lake
Oconee finally came to frui
tion Tuesday when the final
plat request for Horseshoe
Bend was approved by the
Greene County Board of
Commissioners.
The 13.5-acre site that
includes 12 spectacular sin
gle-family lots sits on a pen
insula jutting out into Lake
Oconee.
In addition to providing
some top shelf home sites,
the property taxes Horseshoe
Bend will most certainly
enrich the county coffers.
“This is an extension of
what we’ve been platting the
last few years,” said Craig
Johnson, a land planner for
Reynolds at Lake Oconee.
“Horseshoe Bend is at the
very end of the peninsula.
Actually, it will be the pre
miere propertyfor Reynolds.”
Until the 12 sites are actu
ally developed and built out,
it can’t be determined exactly
how much tax base will
be provided by Horseshoe
Bend. However, conser
vative estimates predict
it could be comparable to
many of the communities in
