Ladies serve up chili to anticipatory testers. ff 2017 Madison celebrates 13th year of popular event Photos and Story by Leila Scoggins leila@lakeoconeenews.us C hili competitors from near and far flocked to the streets of Madison last weekend vying to win over the public and a panel of judges to be crowned the winners of the 13th annual Madison Chili Cook-Off. “It’s a growing event,” said Madison special projects coordinator Ann Huff. “It is the 13th year and I am just happy with how it has grown.” The event took place in Town Park and the surrounding streets on Saturday, Oct. 7- It featured the chili competition as well as a fall festival complete with 35 market vendors, six food vendors, four musical groups providing spectacular entertainment and ahost of activities for children. The day-longeventalso included the coveted Krystal chili-pup eating competition and cornbread bake off. Twenty-six chili teams competed in the event, and 800 people purchased sampling wristbands. Awards were given in four areas: open chili, C. Firstplace in the open chili wentto the MC Cookdogs of the MCHS Culinary Arts department. Second place in the open chili contest went to Greensboro resident Stanley Knox’s Bubba’s Chili. In the C.A.S.I. division first place was awarded to Faded Love Chili Co.’s Bill Heslop from Birmingham, Ala.
