New home-starts gathering steam at
GREENE COUNTY

The vote Monday afternoon by
the Greene County Planning and
Zoning board to recommend apre-
liminaryplatto expand an existing
neighborhood helps keep the saws
buzzing and hammers hammering
at Reynolds, Lake Oconee.
The Planning and Zoning Board
unanimously voted to recommend
expansion to the Armor’s Ford
subdivision in Reynolds. The
recommendation will be passed
on to the Board of Commissioners
for a vote at its November meeting.
“It’s good to be back in the
business of building houses once
again,” said Rabun Neal, president
of Reynolds, Lake Oconee, prior to
the vote.
“I think at this point, we
have around 100 homes under
construction.
“This is the first time we’ve had
that many since I can remember.”
For the record, the request for
Reynolds
consideration for a preliminary
plat approval was for Section IV of
Amor’s Ford.

porters gathered on the new brick patio in

cial memorial in honor of Robert M. Turnell,
founder and first Board ofTrustees chair ofthe
Morgan County Foundation, which adminis
ters the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.
Kim Brown, director ofthe center, welcomed
everyone and spoke about improvements at
the center as a result of the current capital
campaign “Sustaining a Place That Matters.”
She invited everyone to tour the building
following the outdoor program.
Brown introduced former trustee Wayne
Vason, who spoke about Robert Turnell’s
history in Madison, including his service as
Mayor of Madison in the late 1930s when city
hall, the Georgia State Patrol barracks and T. Michael Stone/Staff

to begin

who has been charged with the murder
of Lydia Ivanditti, according to court
records.

Greensboro Choir to perform in New York's Carnegie Hall

How do you get to Carnegie
Hall? Well, there’s a certain
amount of practice involved,
and if you’re lucky, an invitation
from prestigious conductor Dr.
Jonathan Griffith.
The Greensboro Chamber
Choir, under the direction
of Alexis Ward, has been
invited by Dr. Griffith and
his Distinguished Concerts
International New York City, to
take part in a performance of
Handel’s “Messiah” in the Isaac
Stern Auditorium at Carnegie
Hall on Nov. 26.

Harbor Club fire remains under investigation

A fire that destroyed one unit of a
multi-family dwelling and severely
damaged the adjoining unit two
weeks ago at Harbor Club remains
under investigation.
‘We’re still not 100 percent sure
what happened,” said Devin Donald,
property manager at Harbor Club.
“It’s still in the investigation phase,
and the insurance companyis sorting
it out.”
Old Salem Fire Rescue and the
Walker Church Fire Department
arrived on the scene in the wee hours
of Oct. 19.
The unit at 1901 Club Drive in the
Harbor Club Gold Villas was fully
involved when fire and rescue workers
responded.
“The fire department was on it
before a lot of people in Harbor
Club even knew it was happening,”
Donald said.
“It seems like they did a great job
fromkeepingitfrom spreading. There
is a fire wall between the units, and
that worked like it’s supposed to, but
