Stars Continued from B1 “Twenty youths who were graciously sponsoredby com munity members in atten dance at Dancing With The Madison Stars will be able to attend the club year-round for 2018 due to the levels of monies funded per youth,” Ward said. “This allows these children to engage in the life-shaping programs offered through MMBGC One of those lives that has been touched by monies donated at events such as Dancing With The Madison Stars is MMBGC Youth of the Year Josh Wade. Wade spoke during the event and began his speech by telling the guests things he had heard all his life. “You’re fat, you can’t do that, you don’t belong here, you’re ugly,” he said before introducing himself. “The phrase ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me’ never walked in my shoes, never lived in my neigh borhood and never wiped the tears from my eyes as a littleboy who wanted to die,” Wade said. “I still remember my first encounter with a bully. I couldn’t physically beat him, but I just wanted to crawl in a hole. I remem ber a man named Mr. Bob Mackey who told me never to give up on the club when he faced the same situations that I have faced.” He then went into the opportunities he has been given through his involve ment in the club. Wade told the chilling tale of how his sister had been killed in a senseless act and how Boys and Girls Club members and staff had been there to support him. He finished by explaining what his goals were, includ ing starting a group at the MMBGC and graduating high school and attending college. “Community members’ efforts to give back in their own backyard make ripples in the ocean of possibility, and those ripples touch lives for years to come,” Ward said. “One ofthose ripples made by the community spoke at the DWTMS fundraiser. Josh Wade, our MMBGC Youth of the Year, is one of the hundreds of voices waiting to be heard, waiting to be helped, waiting to be told, You are great. You can suc ceed and I believe in you.’ “This event is about that - giving our youth a voice, a platform to thrive. Great futures are made together. And, this is one piece to the village it takes to do so, and I’m forever grateful and still very emotional from the amount we raised. ‘Thank you’ can never go far enough to those who gave this year.” For more information about the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Georgia, visit www.bgcncg. com.
