Elks host Boy Scouts Lake Oconee Elks Lodge 2849 held the first of two turkeys shoots on a very windy and quite chilly morning, Saturday, Nov. 11. It was just the type ofweather to put everyone in the mood to shoot at some targets and try and win a turkey for Thanksgiving. The Elks were delighted to have as their guests, local Boy Scout Troop 30. The scouts were given a firearm safety lesson by Elks Bob Nash and Johnny Hunt (who is an Eagle Scout himself). The boys were then able to for m a shooting line to try and win a turkey. Mason Honea and Todd Anthony won their competition and took a turkey home for Thanksgiving dinner. Congratulations to all the scouts on a great job. Afterward the scouts were treated to a free lunch ofhamburgers andhotdogs. Lake Oconee Elks Lodge willhostasecond turkey shoot on Dec. 9 at the old shooting club on Hwy 16 atthe top of Pea Ridge Road. It starts at 9 a.m. and will last until approximately 1 p.m. Kids aged 8 to 17 can shoot free and get a free lunch. For everyone else, turkey shoots are $5 andham shoots are $8.
