Take a magical ride on the Polar Express Trolley after purchasing a golden ticket. A trolley conductor will then take riders on a magical journey to the North Pole. Board the trolley at the Visitor's Center and listen to Liam Neeson's reading of "The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg and interact with characters from the movie. Upon arrival at the North Pole, disembark and visit with Santa. He will be giving true believers the first present of Christmas. Hot chocolate and cookie refreshments are also included. Tickets for Wednesday and Thursday trolley rides are $10 each, while Friday trolley rides are $15. Departure times are 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. There is a limit of six tickets per adult. Saturday Dec. Phillip and Nathan return to Amici Milledgeville on Dec. 9 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.to bring the tunes for a good time. The duo will play everything from Southern Rock to 90s hits. OCONEE Friday, Dec. 1 The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation's (OCAF) annual Holiday Market will open Dec. 1, offering gift buyers an opportunity to select unique art and crafts objects from 70 of the region's most gifted artists. The market will include pottery, paintings, fiber art, stained and fused glass, jewelry, sculpture, photog raphy, woodwork and more. The Market is open Friday, Dec. 1, 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for all three days is $3 for adults. Children under 16 get in free. ATHENS-CLARKE Friday, Nov. 24 Athens on Ice: Athens, Georgia's only indoor/outdoor ice rink, is almost open for the season. The Classic Center is home to an indoor NHL-sized ice skating arena and outdoor skating pavilion. From Nov. 24 to Jan. 15, the rink will be indoors, then moved to the outdoor pavilion from Jan. 29 to Feb. 25. With multiple public skating sessions every day, adults only public skating and drop-in hockey, this winter staple is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Thursday, Dec. 7 Dr. Jennifer Cruse-Sanders will discuss how botanic gardens can help create networks for effective plant conservation when the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society holds its next meeting.
