Friday, December 8, 2017 Lake Oconee News Page B5 GREENE COUNTY Festival Hall receives grant from Fox Theatre Institute The Fox Theatre Institute (FTI), a division of Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, Inc., has awarded Festival Hall a Historic Structures Studies or Planning Grant for $1,250 to sup port a design plan for a backstage expansion. FTI offers program ming, consulting and grant funding assistance to historic theaters and structures throughout Georgia. Overall, the FTI program has committed over $470,000 in four funding categories completing a record-breaking year of giving. “With the Fox Theatre Institute’s grant support, we will be able to move forward with a much needed plan for Festival Hall’s backstage expansion plan,” said Becky Cronic, director of Festival Hall. “We are grateful for the funding opportu nity that allows us to assess the needs for additional space for the entertainment industry and to the citizens of the area surrounding Greensboro and the Lake Oconee area.” As part of its ongoing commit ment to Georgia’s historic theaters, the Fox Theatre’s newly expanded 2017-18 FTI grant program seeks to provide significant economic and cultural impact to local communi ties across the state. FTI is part of the Fox Theatre’s overall strategic plan to further increase its impact and outreach. “In less than a decade, the Fox Theatre Institute has truly flour ished and brought our goals to life allowing greater access for the arts throughout the state of Georgia,” said Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Fox Theatre, Inc. Adina Erwin. “Historic pres ervation will mobilize greater economic development through the positive rehabilitation of our partner theaters. By increasing our financial commitments to historic preservation and implementation of specialized grant categories, we hope to make this our most impactful year for the Fox Theatre Institute.” The FTI program has commit ted more than $1 million since launching in 2008. The Historic Structures Studies or Planning Grant is one of four grant funding categories through FTI - including Technical Assistance and Services, Historic Preservation Grant and Urgent/Emergency Grant - all of which allow up to $500,000 of much-needed statewide grant subsidy. “It is such an honor to support these historic theaters beyond the much needed financial assistance. The Fox Theatre Institute offers others a successful model on howto thrive as ahistorical theater and an active entertainment destination,” said Leigh Burns, director of the Fox Theatre Institute. “This grant program is singular to itself. It is unlike any other, in that it is solely invested in preserving theaters and structures to ensure positive economic development. I’m excited to see how these organizations will serve as a catalyst to positively impact the financial revenue of the surrounding community as well as grow access to the performing arts.” FTI also consists of‘Fox in a Box,’ afree interactive curriculum-based resource for area elementary schools; Georgia Presenters, an innovative statewide talent book ing consortium; and Preservation Grants to encourage preservation of theatreswith outside funding not readily available elsewhere. Burris joins the Reynolds team after relocating from Beaufort, S.C., where she was the membership direc tor of The South Carolina Yacht Club for 13 years, and most recently the Director of Marketing and Development at Cross Schools.
