The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students-of-the- Month for December 2017: Drew Haley (Gatewood Schools), Esmeralda Tirado (Greene County High School), Blake Beeker (Lake Oconee Academy), Melana Pshichenko (Nathanael Greene Academy) and Raina Collins (Putnam County High School). Drew Haley is a senior at Gatewood Schools. He is the son of Scott and Julie Haley. Haley has a 4.05 GPA and has achieved highest honors throughout high school. He has been a starter on the varsity football team for three years and is the leader of the football accountability team. He is also on the basketball andbaseball teams. Heenjoys playing sports, hanging out with friends and watching movies and TV. He recently traveled to England, Ireland and Scotland. He is involved in community service proj ects to include Operation Christmas Child, Christmas for underprivileged children and academic mentoring. Haley plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in biomedical engineer ing. He chose Libby Haley as his Teacher of the month. Esmeralda Tirado attends Greene County High School and is the daughter of Juan Tirado and Maricela Flores. She is currently taking AP and honors classes and is in the top 10 of her class. Tirado is a member of the Interact and Beta Clubs and UGA Leadership team. She is a member of the cross country and soccer teams. She enjoys art and music, taking care of young children and culinary arts. She has traveled abroad to Mexico, China, Korea and Canada. Tirado helps with church activities and is the sports manager at GCHS. After graduation, she plans to join the National Guard and attend either Georgia Tech or the University of Georgia. She chose Ava Weaver as her Teacher of the Month. Blake Beeker is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy. She is the daughter of Jason Beeker and Laura Carithers. She was Greene County Student of the Year in 2015. LOA presented her with the Cornerstone Community Award in 2015. A clarinet player, Beeker was selected to the District Honor Band. She is currently student body president and captain of the soccer and volleyball teams. She is a member ofthe Drama Club, Beta Club, Lakeside Youth and Athens Church youth groups. She has given back to her community as a volunteer at Winshape Day Camp, Vacation Bible School, mission trips, Rivers Alive and Operation Christmas Child. She has traveled to Mississippi, New Jersey and New York on mission trips. At the end of the month, she will travel to Spain to tour the country and study at a Spanish University. Currently, she is undecided on which college she will attend, but plans to pursue a degree in photojournalism or visual communications. Beeker chose Kris Stevens as her Teacher of the Month. Melana Pshichenko is an honor roll student at Nathanael Greene Academy and is the daughter of Justin and Alexia Pshichenko. She is a member of the Beta Club and has earned scholastic excellence awards for four years. She is an alumna of Youth Leadership Greene and attended the 21st cen tury leadership camp. She is on the cheerleading and tennis teams. She enj oys sing ing, participating in drama activities and creative proj ects. She has already trav eled to 48 states in America and Canada. She has raised awareness and given food to orphaned children, raised moneyfor afamilyin need and helped serve food at a dinner dedicated to free addicts. She plans to attend a university in Atlanta. Melana chose Jane Morgan as her Teacher of the Month. Raina Collins attends Putnam County High School. She is the daughter of Dave Collins and Carla and Neal Dabbs. She is anhonor roll stu dent and is currently taking dual enrollment classes. Sheis aChildren’sChurchleaderand secretary of Student Council. Raina is on the cross-country, track, volleyball and tennis teams. She enjoys baking, family time, bowling and swimming. Every few years, her family travels to Disney World for vacation. Raina gives back to the commu nity as a volunteer for the Mistletoe Ball, Children’s Church, Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child and as a foster care babysit ter. She plans to attend the University of West Georgia and major in special education and then pursue a masters in speech pathology. Raina chose Leanne Moncrief as her Teacher of the Month.
