The squad won the region title and finished fourth in the state competition. Morgan County enrollment sees a slight increase T. Michael Stone michael@lakeoconeenews.us EnrollmentintheMorgan County School System has increased by 14 students since last month, but the overall numbers are still behind last year. According to Dr. Sarah Burback, the Morgan County School system has 3,089 students, including Pre-K, Rutland Academy and Crossroads. As of Dec. 12,2016, atotal of 3,125 students were enrolled in Morgan County Schools. The decrease is due in part to the creation of Foothills Academy. Morgan County Primary School has a total of 689 students. Second graders make up the largest class in the school with 216 students. Morgan County Elementary School has a total of 732 students with fifth graders making up the largest class (256 students). Morgan County Middle School is home to 710 students, 268 of them seventh graders, 230 sixth graders and 216 eighth graders. Morgan County High School has a total of 931 students with a fresh man class numbering244 students. Senior and sophomores each account for 237 students with a total of 213 juniors. There are 18 students enrolled in Crossroads and nine in Rutland Academy. Fifteen out of county students pay tuition to attend Morgan County schools. One-hundredthirty-fourstudents who live in Morgan County attend private schools with 32 at Athens Academy, 25 at Gatewood Schools and 16 each at George Walton and Prince Avenue Christian. According to the most recent Homeless Education Report, atotal of 86 students who attend Morgan County schools were deemedhome- less during the last school year. Twenty-nine of those students lived in hotels or motels; one studen l lived in car/park/campground/ temporary trailer or abandoned building; 55 students lived with another family and one student lived in a shelter or transitional facility. According to Burbach, atten dance continues to be a focus this year with the Attendance Task Force meeting monthly to analyze data. This year the absenteeism rate has been between 4 and 5 percent, rising slightly as the holidays and colder weather arrive. T. For November of the 2018 Fiscal Year, the system will collect $289,068, an increase of more than 6 percent above November of the previous year. Collections for 2018 are also slightly higher than revenue collected two years ago when SPLOST funds SPLOST revenue is on track to be higher this year than the past two years with an average of $298,272 collected so far this Fiscal Year compared to an aver age of $281,273 in 2017 and $286,659 in 2016. Revenuefromthe SPLOST V came in at $314,408 for October, the third highest month total since July of 2015.
