Photos and Story by Leila Scoggins leila@lakeoconeenews.us T he Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Georgia held a ceremony to honor three outstanding Youth of the Year students last week, two of which are from Lake Country. The event was held Dec. 7 at the Morgan County Board of Education building. The Madison-Morgan Boys and Girls Club honored Joshua Wade as their Youth of the Year. MMBGC Ambassador Jadore Williams accompa nied Wade. The Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club honored Quanderious Briscoe. PNBGC Ambassador Gerald Evans accompanied Briscoe. Naya Knox was also honored as the Walton County Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year. BGCNCG CEO Bob Mackey introduced the speaker for the evening, former UGA Linebacker Rennie Curran. “He’s here to share words of encouragement for you all because everybody in this room, we love each other, but you all are the real reason we are here,” Mackey said. Curran gave an inspiring speech to the teenagers. He began by explaining what went into crafting his mes sage for the evening, saying he had taken time to think about the journey that made him into the man that he is today. “It’s so easy to look at a person and judge them from their surface, but I realized that beneath every single person, there is a story,” Curran said. “There is a story about something that you had to go through. There is a story of hardships. There might be a story of sacrifice. There might be a story of someone who helped you, and as I was reading their stories, I couldn’t help but to really think about my story.” Curran pointed to his time at the Boys and Girls Club and how it helped shaped him into the man he is.
