Madison’s ordinance prohibits
free samples or happy hour dis
counts, and no package sales for
consumption off premises are
permitted.
However, Amici’s will be allowed
to sell sealed bottles known as
growlers. Growlers areusuallymade
of glass and can hold from 12 to 68
ounces of beverage from a “barrel,
cask, tank or keg. According to
the ordinance, only professionally
sanitized and sealed growlers may
be filled and made available for sale.
Brewpub licenses cost i$500 per
year and require a city and state malt
beverage pouring license.
The ordinance limits Amici to the
manufacturing no more than 5,000
barrels of malt beverage in a year.
Beverages governed under the
brewpub license can’t be sold for
resale to other wholesalers.
There is levied an excise tax on
all malt beverages produced by a
brewpub at $12 for every 31 gallons
sold, which is collected monthly by
the city.
