Lea takes MMCC stage
On Friday, Jan. 19, at 7
p.m., the Cultural Center, in
partnership with the Morgan
Writers’ Workshop, will
present classically trained
violinist and songwriter
Gaelynn Lea. Spend the
evening under the spell of
Lea’s haunting original songs
and experimental takes on
traditional fiddle music.
Her work most recently
won NPR Music’s 2016 Tiny
Desk Contest, a competition
drawing submissions of orig
inal songs from more than
6,000 musicians across the
country.

imbued with a melancholic
poetry so potent it must be
heard to be believed” (Boston
Globe, July 2017).
She began touring
nationally in 2016 and has
been on the road ever since.

In addition to her perfor
mances, Gaelynn also speaks
about disability, finding
innerfreedom and the power
of music. Gaelynn has a
congenital disability called
Osteogenesis Imperfecta,
or Brittle Bones Disease. In
recent years, she has used
her music as a platform to
advocate for people with dis
abilities and promote positive
social change.
