FRATERNITIES FLAN OPENING HOUSI PARTIES Kappa Deltas Give Tea Dance House Parties to Be Given During Opening Dances Several of the fraternities have indicated their intention of giving house parties during the coming week-end of Openings Dances cen tered arottnd the Georgia-Mercer football game. Many prominent young ladies from all over the South have been invited to these various house parties. Among the fraternities that will probably have house parties are Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Chi Phi, Kappa Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Kappa Sig ma, Delta Tau Delta, Sigma Nu, Phi Epsilon Pi, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and Tau Epsilon Phi. Phi Mus Honor Guests at Dance Sorority entertainments honoring the rushees started with a luncheon and a tea-dance given by Alpha Al pha chapter of the Phi Mu sorority at their home on Prince avenue Tues day. The guests for the luncheon, which included the chapter members, pledges, and rushees, assembled at 2:30 o’clock in the living rooms and sun parlor of the Athens Woman’s club. Each rushee and pledge was presented with a corsage of pink roses. A two-course luncheon was served by the members of the Wo man’s club. Following the luncheon, more guests arrived for the tea dance. Several of the patronesses and alum nae of Phi Mu called during the afternoon. Punch was served on the side porch by Mrs. Burton Ferguson, chapter house-mother. Music was furnished by the Four Horsemen or chestra. Tea Is Given By Alpha Gams Gamma Alpha chapter of the Al pha Gamma Delta sorority enter tained their rushees with a formal tea at their house on Hill street Thursday afternoon. Tea was served in the dining room by Miss Lucile Linton and Mesdames E. D. Pusey, Cobb Lampkin, and R. P. Walker. In the sun parlor punch and oakes were served by Misses Mildred David and Jane Downing. The chapter house was beautifully decorated with fall flowers. , A number of guests called during the afternoon. Misses Harriet Wairy, Monroe: Julia Osborne, Albany; and Isabel Hanson, Atlanta, are at the Phi Mu house this year. Misses Gwynelle Rice, Commerce; Evelyn Sherman, Blakely; Dorothy Jean Blackburn, Dayton, Ohio; Nor man King, Cuthbert; are guests at the Chi Omega house this week. Miss Katherine Strickland, Roys- ton, is staying at the Alpha Gamma Delta house. Miss Mary Ellen McMillan spent last week-end in Gainesville with her mother. Miss Suzanne Stark spent last week-end with her parents in Com merce. House-mothers at the various dormitories this year are: Sopho more House, Mrs. C. R. Garwood; Freshman House, Mrs. J. G. Several tables of bridge were arranged for the freshman girls. A color scheme of green and white was used in all decorations. Punch and sandwiches were served through out the afternoon. The Four Horsemen orchestra furnished the music. April 30, 1928 Larus & Bro. Co. Richmond, Va. Dear Sirs: Two years ago last winter I went into the Red Lake gold fields in Canada. It was a tough trail from Hudson, over 140 miles of snow and ice. There were fourteen of us on the trail going in, and frequently at night when seated around a hig camp fire, some one would ask me for a pipeful of Edgeworth. These Canadian boys sure like our Edgeworth. In four weeks' time I ran out of Edgeworth. I was glad to get 'most any old tobacco. One day, nowever, I dropped in to Dad Brown's tent, a 72-year-old pros- pector, and seeing a can of Edgeworth on an improvised table, hack there 150 miles from the “steel,” I perked up at once, saying, “Dad, I’m plum out of tobacco how’s chances for a pipe ful?” “Help yourself," ha said. So pulling my heavy duty pipe from my pocket, I loaded it with Edgeworth, packing it in so tightly that I couldn't get the least bit of a draw. I excused myself for a moment, and step|>ed outside to remove about three pipefuls to put in my pouch. Dad stepped out, saying, "You're worse than any Scetchman I ever saw.' Then I confessed. I told him what hap|»ened to my Edgeworth that I was just 'lying for a smoke, and he understood rigtit away. Hi- ss.id, “Boy, Edgeworth is mighty scarce in these parts, but I reckon I can span w hat’s left of that can.
