"That's the trouble with passion, you always get what you deserve." - a guy in ‘thirtysomething" 40 WATT CLUB (549-7871) • Friday: Luna/Daisy. Luna has an amazing sound that is like a cleaner version of The Velvet Underground. Few bands have such style and fi nesse. Luna is one of the best you’ll see this year, or any year for that matter. Daisy is a psychedelic rock band that used to saturate this town, but it's been a while so maybe this is the band's triumphant return. ($5) Luna • Saturday: 7 Foot Politic/The Jumpstarts. 7FP plays a combination of big band and jazz and ska and rockabilly and some other stuff Very tight and very professional, these guys will make you shake your hips, baby. It's been a while since 7FP has played in town, so go show your sup port. The Jumpstarts play ska so bring your skankmg shoes. ($4) • Monday: Ricker. 4 showcase of lo cal films on Super 8 and video. Go see what your peers can do with a camera because some of them will really impress you. Starts at 8 p.m. ($2) • Tuesday: Blue Meanies/NII8. Blue Meames play that awful combination of punk and ska. Vaudeville, One Big Eye and very special guests will play. If you like Five-Eight, or even just peo ple. go help this guy out. Vaudeville is a hard-rocking local band, and One Big Eye is a side project of Tigger. Five-Eight's drummer. ($5) • Thursday: Blonde Redhead/Joe Christmas/The Lost Man. Wow. Sure Blonde Redhead sounds like Sonic Youth, but this band has taken what Sonic Youth used to do in a dif ferent direction. I've heard the band can kill in a live setting. Joe Christmas sounded great at the 40 Watt last time. I hate to sound like a broken record, but these guys are go ing to be stars...stars...stars. The Lost Man is another new band that has turned some heads its way. es pecially heads that like loud, dissa nant punk. i$4) ATOMIC MUSIC HALL (543-7114) • Friday: Thumb/Snail. These are two local rock bands that might just rock your Friday night. I'd love to make a thumbsnail sketch. ($3) • Saturday: 300 Joules/Gick. Two local rock acts that have been play ing a lot lately, so go see what's up. ($3) • Monday: Love Apple/Now Denial. Local rock. Now Denial has gained quite a reputation for playing Brit- style. There are two kinds of people in this world: those who dig Ceiling Fan. and those who agree with the title of the band's new tape. "Blows." ($3) • Thursday: Asa Nisi Masa. This band has been relatively inactive lately, which is a shame. One of the best outfits in town. I'm still waiting for them to be stars. Is there no jus tice? I'd be willing to bet you won't see a better bass, drums and violin trio anywhere. ($3) BONESHAKERS (543-1555) • Friday: House Beats. ($3) • Saturday: House Party Hell. Party favors, drink spe cials and “too much to even men tion." • Thursday: Valentine Fetish Party. THE LANDFILL (208-8823) • Sunday: Deadbolt/The Scaries/Svengalis/Rugboy. Deadbolt plays tattoo-laden, garagey voodoobilly sounds. It's supposedly the scariest band in the world, and after seeing a band photo. I believe it. Svengalis is a Subsonics side pro ject from Atlanta. Rugboy is a local “eclectic pop” band that uses cello, horn and guitar. Bands start at 8 p.m. ($2) - Andy ‘the amphibious wonder" Battaglia "Free love — what is it? Can I get some? The Pickets come straight from the Seattle scene — the Seattle country scene, that is. Their first single was a cover of the Clash's “Should I Stay Or Should I Go." That has to count for a lot. A country band that isn't afraid to cover the Clash. If you've heard of anything cooler, let me know.
