GYM: Intra-squad meet
determines starters
Winter break is a time for
rest, relaxation and recovery
from finals, but that is not so
for the No. 8 Lady Dogs (7-0)
basketball team.
The team will cover more
than 7,000 miles over their
“break,” journeying through
Virginia, San Diego and
Baton Rouge, with trips back
to Athens in between.

Before the Georgia men’s
basketball team begins SEC
conference play Jan. 6 at
defending national champion
Florida, the Bulldogs will
have the chance to show their
mettle against some of the
best teams in the country.
The Bulldogs are in the
middle of an 11-day break
before they battle battle
against No. 18 Gonzaga at
the Gwinnett Center on Dec.
16.
The nine games played
during that stretch include
tonight’s game against
Middle Tennessee State and
opening conferance match
ups against Florida and LSU
in January.
The team knows it will be
an enjoyable but difficult trip.
“It’s always fun to travel,”
said freshman Ashley Houts.
“I love traveling with my
teammates, but it’s going to
be tough. We’re going to have
Given the team’s hot play
of late, head coach Dennis
Felton said, “I’m very leery of
an 11-day break.”
After Gonzaga, the
Bulldogs will sandwich games
at Georgia Tech and Clemson
between home games against
Jacksonville and No. 12
Wisconsin.
Overall, Georgia will take
on four teams ranked in the
top 35 in both the Coaches’
Poll and the AP Poll.
The Bulldogs have scored
an average of 91 points per
game, but that cannot be
to be tired and push through
it and be mentally tough and
pull through it.”
The cross-country adven
ture will be hard for the girls
off the court becuase of limit
ed time off to visit family dur
ing the holiday break.
“If you play basketball, you
know and understand our
schedules. We’re just grateful
to have three or four days to
go home and spend with our
families,” Houts said.

Sneak-a-Peek may make the
freshman slightly nervous
because it is their first pub
lic performance.
Childs said the intra
squad meet is fun but a little
nerve-racking. She added
that the presence of family
and friends helps calm her
down and give her confi
dence when she competes.
Childs said she will show
off the moonwalk on the bal
ance beam for her support
ers this season.
When Childs and her
team return to the practice
floor after Sneak-a-Peek,
she will not have the luxury
of supporting fans. There
will be two other intra
squad meets closed to the
public.
