The following incidents were taken from Athens- Clarke County and University police reports: > University Police Issued a warrant Wednesday for the arrest of University employee Marshall Hurt Akers after charging him with 15 felonies. Akers is charged with five felony counts of computer forgery, five felony counts of theft by taking and five felony counts of unauthorized use of financial transaction. An employee of Internal auditing contacted the police UNITED: Athletes combine God, sport ► From Page 1 Perry and Scott Shepherd presented a video at a meet ing on Feb. 15 about opportu nities for athletes to teach at camps over the summer. "We get you to go on these summer trips because they’re life-changing experiences." Shepherd said. Oftentimes, the leaders then will move to a discus sion. Hynes said he’s focusing on a series about the parables found in the Bible for the meetings this semester. At the Feb. 15 meeting, he chose the Good Samaritan story from Luke and encour aged the students to apply it to their sports and their lives. He made Jokes, added some Biblical history and shared some of his experiences in order to teach the athletes about acting as the Good Samaritan does in the story. Team Captain Mike Williams said once the season started in September 2006. the entire team knew about it. "Your first reaction is one of, ‘I wonder how everyone else is going to take it,'" said Williams, adding he feared the other guys might make fun of Fisher. Head coach John Hoos said he first found out in a private conversation he had with Fisher. Hoos said he told Fisher he thought it was not an issue. Hoos was correct. Teammates accepted Fisher’s sexuality. "I judge people, and I think team members judge people, based on their char acter,” Hoos said.
